Something For The Weekend? Three From Jakarta

This week’s pack of three features three new singles from bands from the Indonesian Capital.

Hazel – Dua Angsa

Hazel follow up last year’s excellent Over My Head, which appears on the flip in a remastered form, with the shimmering Dua Angsa. It has that classic shoegaze sound that will no doubt gain the approval of fans of that genre. The song has a vibrant feel and also features vocals from Pingkan (Dive Collate). It’s out now via TarsiusRecs whilst a brand new EP should follow later this year.

Meraung – Merah Di Tiga

Two slices of very fine noise pop/indie rock from new to me, Meraung. It’s the Bogor (ok – it’s 30 miles from Jakarta!) based band’s debut EP and the both tracks are thriving, driving and anthem like indie songs. The vocals on the second track, Segeralah Selesai are a joy indeed. It’s a split release between disanorak and Body Double which is link free at present.

Ministry Of – So Far

Ministry Of are an indie rock outfit who have released three songs since October 2021 and which have been compiled by the cassette label Gabe Gabe Tapes for a release in that format. I must admit, despite the accomplished sounds, that Ages and Stories are not for me although they may grab you. However, it’s February’s Horoscope that catches my ears thanks to then delicate and beautiful voice of guest vocalist Finna Amalia. Erring towards the dreamy and melodic, the song is a complete contrast to the other contributions. The cassette is available here, or pick up all the tracks individually from the band.
