The “Off to the Coast” Sampler

The sun has been out for a couple of days, so I am going to chance my arm and head to the coast for a long weekend. Here is a playlist to keep both me and you company over the few days.

Here is the Playlist:

or listen on YouTube

And here are the individual tracks/info:

Rilev – Sueños

Loud, fuzzy and scuzzy shoegaze from Mexico City’s Rilev. An EP titled Noizu, follows on August 23 2023.

Flowerbed – Hide

More loud shoegaze (must be that time of year!) which is interlaced with some vintage sounding grungy sounds that make your ears rattle.

Avalyn – Sea Change

Shimmering dreampop that has made more than one blog writer gush this past week. Given the swirling guitars resplendent with post-punk and ethereal vibes, it’s not that hard to understand why.

Bedchamber – Riptide

Riptide is taken from the forthcoming second album Capa City, which will be released on June 30 2023 via La Munai Records. Another strong, delightfully melodic release from this returning Indonesian indiepop band.

Pale Blue Eyes – Takes Me Over

Takes Me Over, is the second single to be taken from the band’s forthcoming album This House, which will be released via Full Time Hobby at the beginning of September 2023. The Krautrock influences remain on this motoring track on which the engines drone (I will get my coat)…..

Melenas – Bang

Bang is the first single to be taken from the Pamplona based act’s forthcoming album Ahora, which will be released via Trouble In Mind Records at the end of September 2023. Opening with some delicious synths, with a nod to Neu’s Hallagallo, the song morphs into an electropop track with plenty of reverb pasted all over. Catchy and addictive. Great video too!

Mint Julep – After All

Mr and Mrs Kenniff return as Mint Julep after a couple of solo albums from the pair already this year. Electronic tinged dreampop is the order of the day on this maudlin, yet charming, dreampop single.

Swimming Pools & Movie Stars – Sparkling

Another track taken from yet another forthcoming album. The title is an apt-description of this track that takes influences from the 1980s and 1990s, fusing them together to deliver a pretty effective song. I particularly like the hushed vocal style on this one.

Tough Age – Which Way Am I?

Which Way Am I? is, yep you have guessed it, the latest single to be taken from the forthcoming album Waiting Here that will be released via Bobo Integral on June 16 2023. It’s a very short but well packed song with distinctive vocals and very Stereolab sounding guitars.

Auld Spells – Suffer on TV

The band say the following about their new single Suffer on TV. “It’s our most straight ahead rockin’ song that builds throughout. It’s mainly about the state of political discourse today. Also, a bit of a revenge fantasy tune.” Based on their previous efforts, I would not have expected something this lively, but it’s a blast in more ways than one. Musically for sure. Lyrically? I will leave that one to you to work out!
