Carsick – Runner
Runner is punk-infused noise pop, which reminds me a bit of early Super Furry Animals in parts. Plenty of earworms yet the track does not even reach the two-minute mark. Less is more, eh? Runner is taken from the Salisbury based band’s debut EP Drunk Hymns which will be released via Alcopop! Records on June 30 2023.
Fun With Ether – Spirit Kid
Shoegazers Fun With Ether release their new album A Dirty Kind of Clean on March 01 2023. Spirit Kid is one of two tracks currently available for streaming, being a fuzz laden track with a rallying cry of “Oh, go party, yeah, go party”. It’s rousing stuff. If they called a halt to it after three and a bit minutes, it would have been oh so near perfect. Sadly, it gets somewhat self-indulgent for the last minute, but I guess that’s what the fade out button is for. A Dirty Kind of Clean can be pre-ordered from here.
Bifff – Sinking In
Melancholic dreampop (can that even be a thing?) from Tennessee based Bifff. I like the way the vocals are blurred against the guitars and programming, which is pretty effective let alone attention grabbing. I may be showing my age, but the keyboard sounds are reminiscent of Justin Hayward’s Forever Autumn which is a guilty pleasure of mine!
