The Rain Song (s)

It’s peeing is down torrentially in London town today, so much so I swear I have seen a wooden boat laden with animals just go by. Put down that brolly and listen to another sampler of new releases via the ever unpopular you tube playlist or individually below.

Here is the Playlist:

or listen on YouTube.

Spool – (Image For) Drawing on Canvas

(Image For) Drawing on Canvas is the title track of the forthcoming third album from the Tokyo based dreampop band. Ethereal and soaring especially the vocals of singer/guitarist Ayumi Kobayashi which sound like a graceful bird in flight.

Sunspire – Monolith

Monolith is the standout track from Sunspire’s second album The Ancient Place. Brooding synth-pop which sounds somewhat out of place when compared to the majority of the album’s tracks. The Ancient Place is out now via Crafting Room Records (UK).

Starry Eyed Cadet – The Very Most

Vibrant and towering indiepop that can be found on the band’s brand new split EP with The Very Most, the story of which can be found here. It’s delightful stuff that should be a staple on the indiepop dancefloor.

The Laughing Chimes – Ice Cream Skies

The first single to be lifted from the forthcoming Zoo Avenue EP which will see the light of day via Slumberland Records on November 18 2022. Retro sounding jangling melodic indiepop at it’s finest. You can pre-order Zoo Avenue EP from the label.

Gold Muse – Making Scenes

I think I mentioned the other week about how much ethereal dreampop/shoegaze has been released over the past few months. Shoegaze already had it’s ethereal thanks to it’s 4AD influences and I am glad to say it’s a sound I am yet to tire of – well not yet! Making Scenes is yet another fine example which is down to no small part to the lovely voice of Deborah Warfield alongside the glistening guitars and synths.

Puzzles y Dragones – Gente Mayor

The band’s label, El Genio Equivocado, are gushing in praise for ther act. They write that “Puzzles y Dragones have become a benchmark for indie militancy and love for the most beautiful pop” which is a sentence I wish I could have written! The track is laid back indiepop that harks back to the ghosts of Sarah Records.

The Photocopies – Kissing in the Rain

Last weekend we had a new single from Sean Turner, now we have a mini-album titled Hopelessly Devoted. He writes that the eight songs contained within don’t quite feel like singles. I would argue the case that Kissing in the Rain sounds very much like a song that could have easily found itself in the top 40 circa 1981/82 thanks to it’s melodic pop sensibilities.

Doused – Trees & Flowers

Philadelphia’s Doused cover Strawberry Switchblade’s Trees & Flowers on the flip side of their new single Cherrycolacrush. The gentle synthpop of the original has been replaced by noisy shoegazing guitars and amazingly it works wonderfully well. Emma Hansson’s vocals are a fine replacements for Rose McDowall’s. A great cover!

Lisasinson – Últimamente

Another fast paced punk and rage infused pop single from the Spanish act Lisasinson. It’s taken from their forthcoming album Un Año De Cambios which will be out early next year. It all the tracks sound like this is gonna be headache inducing!

Molly – The Golden Age

A slab of epic post-rock from the Innsbruck based Molly. It will be found on their forthcoming album Picturesque which will be released on January 13 2023. The song itself sounds as expansive as the mountains that feature in the video and which I guess are the ones that surround their home city. I amazed those guitars did not cause an avalanche.
