Something For The Weekend? Three To Be Found Elsewhere

This week’s pack of three features singles taken from forthcoming and recently released albums/EPs.

Virgins – Signalling

Virgins are from Belfast and Signalling is the second track to be taken from the forthcoming EP titled Transmit A Little Heaven. It’s a grunge tinged shoegaze track packed full of reverb and fuzziness whilst Rebecca Dow’s vocals take the song into ethereal territory and back. A soaring effort. Transmit A Little Heaven can be pre-ordered from here on 12″ pink vinyl.

Lilac – Skatterbrain

The latest single from Stockholm’s Lilac is the third to be lifted from the forthcoming debut long player titled There’s Someone Else in My Skin. Skatterbrain is a powerful track drawing from both alt-rock and dreampop territory. It gets a bit noisy in places but that’s tempered by apprehensive vocals.

The Photocopies – Don’t Call Him Your Boyfriend/Start Again

Two more angst ridden retro sounding love songs (question mark!) on this new double a-sided single from the exiled but prolific Londoner Sean Turner.

On Don’t Call Him Your Boyfriend the protagonist wonders why the object of his desire does not consider him after a number of failed relationships including one with the fella who “dresses up to play, toy soldiers every Saturday”. Whilst the former harks back to the 1980s sound wise we head back to the previous decade on the latter being the glam tinged Start Again which recounts a tale of a lost love who has gone away. That sounds very 70s in itself!

The single can also be found on the recently album Greatest Hits Volume Two.
