Mental Map are a Moscow based band consisting of Evan (guitar), Lina (vocals, guitar), Max (bass) and Nick (drums). They write that they are “inspired by 80s/90s indie scene blending indie rock, shoegaze, twee and emo with sad, vulnerable and somewhat abstract lyrics about lonely evenings and restless nights.”
They also make a bit of a noise as on this, their second EP, you will find some tracks (Places, Nothing To Show Here) riddled with fuzzy, loud guitars with the vocals hidden behind the grinding aforementioned fretted strings.
The guitars are not turned so high on Polarized which gives the voice a chance to shine. It’s no surprise then it’s the EP’s standout track. That said the brooding, slow-paced Whale Song pushes it especially when the guitars shine whilst the vocals reflect in solace.
