Post Punk Tuesday

What has caught my ear in the world of post-punk of late?

Kælan Mikla– Hvítir Sandar
Icelandic post-punk act Kælan Mikla have just released their third album Undir Köldum Norðurljósum. Hvítir Sandar is taken from said album and is another fine synth driven track that blends both goth and mythology. Fellow Icelanders Alcest collaborate on the track.

Undir Köldum Norðurljósum is out now on Artoffact Records and can be pre-ordered from here.

This Is The Bridge – From The Bleeding Earth

Taken from the new album My Brutal World From The Bleeding Earth is a vintage sounding synth pop which contains some Kraftwerk machine style beats. My Brutal World is available in vinyl and digital formats from Tonn Recordings.

Glaring – Restless
Restless, which is taken from the brand new album Nebula, errs on the dreamier side of coldwave and features mesmerising synths with the barely audible vocals being heard. Depending on your format Nebula is available from Peripheral Minimal Records (UK) on vinyl or cassette via Dutch label Wave Tension Records.

Violentene – September Falls

September Falls is the second single to be taken from the forthcoming Otherworld EP. Synthpop with roots in the past with the band writing that the track is “our melancholic, introspective, and beat driven theme to the rebirth and emotion that comes with the autumnal equinox.” You cannot knock a good Pagan beat.

8i8 – Número Doce

This one from Chile based 8i8 opens sounding a bit like “Babylon’s Burning” before settling down with some motoring synths and fast paced beats. Again the vocals are on the barely audible side. An album titled Extasis follows at the end of the month.

Scary Black – American Gothic

Wow. A new song from Scary Black and just in time for Halloween which should give you some idea of how this one sounds. Which is rather splendid if truth be told!

The Paper Road – Wish Me Well

Wish Me Well is the first single to be taken from the forthcoming album Sad Songs & Quarantine which is due to be released next month. The Paper Road is the solo project from Nuno Varudo who is the lead singer of the awfully named (but sometimes the music is much better) She Pleasures HerSelf.

Suffering For Kisses – Change

Change is the lead single from the new mini album Love and Demise from Seattle’s Suffering For Kisses. If Johnny Cash fronted a post-punk band he may have well sounded like this but to be fair Tony D’Oporto’s voice is just as distinctive. Love and Demise is available on a pay what you want basis from here.
