The Trudy have been around in one form or another since 1979. Based in London the current line up consists of Melissa Heathcote, Del Tagg and Peter Tagg. On their new single Dear Sancho, and their first single since 2016’s Rocket Heart, the band are joined by original bass player Sue Smallwood whilst on production duties is the renowned Greg Walsh.
I have been a fan of the bands blend of post-punk and power pop for a while now – not since 1979 but it’s close. The track opens with guitars that initially induce the listener and as the song progresses they draw you in even further. Melissa Heathcote’s vocals are as charming as ever as they soon have you in their grasp. The song continually changes direction with patterns flashing before your eyes. It’s hypnotic, to say the least. Let’s hope it’s not another five years before we hear from them again!
Dear Sancho is self-released and can be purchased from here.
