Darryl Wezy – Parallel Universe

I first heard Jakarta based Irfandy Hamzah aka Darryl Wezy and his brand of indie-pop this time last year via the Our Secret World 2 compilation courtesy of Shiny Happy Records. He has been around for a while now and his contribution for the aforementioned compilation was a raw live recording of the track Tomorrow which appears here in all its studio-recorded glory. It, like the second track Silver Lining, is well-crafted indie-pop that errs on the side of twee. Wezy’s voice is a delight and I cannot remember too many times where I have said that about a male vocalist.

If you want pointers the label states that this release is for fans of the likes of Dylan Mondegreen and Belle and Sebastian. The former even provides the liner notes for the cassette version. I am bit confused though. The label writes that this is a 7 track album but the digital release currently available is just the two tracks long. Hopefully, the rest* will appear soon digitally because based on these two songs I really want to hear some more.

EDIT. Wezy’s music is available on iTunes which is a service I avoid. I have found some tracks from the last couple of years on the 7 Digital’s UK site.

*EDIT 2! The full release has turned up on Bandcamp as well as a limited edition cassette version. You can order from here.
