Midweek Catch Up #1 – Indiepop &c

A catch up of stuff caught on the Records I Like Radar. The Radio Dept. have released a new single. Titled The Absence of Birds it’s backed with a remix of the same song. The former is a wispy indiepop song with folk-ish overtones whilst the latter mixes ambient with drone. You can get it from here. Diet Cig released a new track at the end of last month. Titled Night Terrors it’s a fine example of alternative pop with scary lyrics to match – boo! You can get it from here. Medway Scene veterans The Claim have a new … Continue reading Midweek Catch Up #1 – Indiepop &c

The Reds, Pinks & Purples – I’m Sorry About Your Life

The Reds, Pinks & Purples have announced some plans for 2020. They will be releasing a 7″ EP on Swedish label I Dischi Del Barone Records. They have also announced full band appearances at the Madrid Popfest on 13th March and play San Francisco along side Australian band Quivers and The Umbrellas on April 11th. The Reds, Pinks & Purples – I’m Worried About the New Wave (demo)/Boys in the Gang

The Reds, Pinks & Purples return with yet another new demo (did they skip one last month?) and it’s well-founded as ever. They haven’t really deviated away from their sound over their ten demos so far and that’s a good thing. What ever they have planned sounds promising as I’m Worried About the New Wave demonstrates. Talking of new wave it’s the cover of 999’s 1980 single Boys in the Gang that interests me. The band have extended it by a minute replacing the stuttering new wave guitars with some shimmering ones which works out rather well whilst Glenn Donaldson’s … Continue reading The Reds, Pinks & Purples – I’m Worried About the New Wave (demo)/Boys in the Gang

Taking it one track at a time

Rei Clone – Lavender Lavender is the third single to be lifted from the forthcoming album Greetings From Somewhere. It’s more noise from these Texan shoegazers and this track reminds me a bit of early Lush. Roll on that album. Facebook The Reds, Pinks & Purples – Dead End Days (demo) Is there any more I can add about the The Reds, Pinks & Purples in addition to what I have written about them already? I thought not so I will let the music speak for itself and to be fair it’s doing a damn fine job! Noxantes – Fingers-Crossed … Continue reading Taking it one track at a time

The Reds, Pinks & Purples – Bad Habits (Demo)

Bad Habits is the latest track from the DIY pop project of Glenn Donaldson (Skygreen Leopards, Art Museums) and friends. Certainly influenced by a certain Bristol based label from years past as well as drawing from a range of influences since then Bad Habits is another excellent jangling track with sullen and gloomy lyrics that is certainly welcome by these ears as the year draws to a close. Give, Give, Give Me More, More, More…..

I think this final post of the week finally sees me catching up with my bandcamp bookmarks, well the stuff I liked, for now. Lightfoils – Summer Nights (radio edit) An absolute belter of a shoegazing track. Dreamy and ethereal. Just the way I like ’em. I cannot really say any more so press play now! Edit: A longer 8 minute version can be found on the just released Chambers EP. Facebook Death of Heather – I Can Tell Bangkok’s Death of Heather build upon the promise of their July demos delivering a lovely polished dreampop effort that will be … Continue reading Give, Give, Give Me More, More, More…..
