Something for the Weekend….

Another three pack for your discovery/enjoyment etc. The first two featured in the recent podcast and it’s only fair to give them more of a mention. The Lads Mags – The Future’s Done Excellent 1960’s girl band influenced garage from Canadian’s The Lad Mags. Of the two tracks available it’s opener Bed of Bones that does it for me and I stupidly gave it the wrong title in the aforementioned podcast – now corrected. Reagrdless of what it is called it’s an excellent track. It’s available as a free download/pay what you want from their bandcamp page. Records I Like Podcast July 2016

I created a Records I Like mix for our sister blog/club The Culture Bunker and thought I would share it here too as it covers most of the tunes posted in June/July in one handy mix! You can find some Culture Bunker mixes at our Mixcloud page or if you have spotify playlists of all our nights can be found under setlists on the aforementioned Culture bunker homepage. Motorama – Holy Day

Holy Day by Russian band Motorama is a coldwave orientated post punk tune and has been on play on a regular basis here at Records I Like. Cannot say I have heard much by them previously but thanks to Spotify and bandcamp I have rectified that and most of it deserves your attention. Holy Day is a good place to start as any! It’s out now on 7″ via Talitres. Or pick it up from the band’s bandcamp page. Facebook Continue reading Motorama – Holy Day

Holy Now – Wake Up

Wake Up is the forthcoming single from Sweden’s Holy Now and it’s time for one of those jaw dropping moments. The dark lyrics jostle with soaring, jangling guitars, pounding percussion and ethereal female vocals. It’s immense to these ears. Wake Up is taken from the band’s Sorry I messed up cassette (which you can get here). It’s also full of excellent tracks including the desolate Please Love Me which will be the singles flip side. They only lose their way once on Feather which is a couple of minutes too long. Wake Up will be released next month via Beech … Continue reading Holy Now – Wake Up

Seafang – Motorcycle Song

On their Facebook page Florida’s Seafang like C86, The Shangri-Las, The Shop Assistants, My Bloody Valentine, Black Tambourine and many many more of a similar ilk. So no guessing what their music sounds like then. It’s a wonderful infusion of 1980’s indie, girl bands and even a smattering of shoegaze. Standout for me is the closer Be The One which takes me back thirty years and the sounds of The Primitives and The Darling Buds. Wonderful stuff. It’s out on 7″ single via Elephant Stone Records and is that labels first release in four years! Alternatively buy from the band’s … Continue reading Seafang – Motorcycle Song

Flyying Colours – It’s Tomorrow Now

It’s Tomorrow Now is the first single to be taken from Flyying Colour’s debut album Mindfullness that is due to be released in September on Club AC30. The album becomes an intriguing prospect after listening to this given that it’s a hybrid of psychedelic sounds, rock guitars and noise pop. Now there is a night out. Maybe tomorrow?
