Just Blankets – Stegosaurus

Stegosaurus is taken from the band’s self titled EP which is due out shortly. It’s an excellent punkpop/powerpop/indiepop (delete as appropriate) tune which will have you bopping along quite nicely indeed. You can pre-order the EP from here. You had better hurry as the physical release is only available as a limited edition cassette of only 50 copies. I think the cover art is pretty stunning. The page of artist Emily Hurlock can be found here. Facebook Continue reading Just Blankets – Stegosaurus

Commis Voyageur – 16.1

More music from Russia today this time in the shape of Moscow band Commis Voyageur who actually sing in English. Mind you if they sung in their native tongue it wouldn’t matter a hoot because the music & songs are excellent. The band play a strong synth lead version of post-punk/indie with the synths blending in naturally with the singers excellent vocals and the guitars and bass. It’s pretty impressive stuff. The EP is available on a pay what you want basis from Bandcamp . Facebook Continue reading Commis Voyageur – 16.1

Verbludes – Угадай

Verbludes are a twee pop band from Russia and Угадай, which according to Google translate is means Guess seems to be their first release. Both tracks here are pretty strong examples of twee/indiepop including some excellent boy/girl vocals and swirling melodies. Oh opening track Быть тебе интересным translates as Be interesting to you. And this release certainly is…… It’s available on a pay what you want basis from here. Homepage Continue reading Verbludes – Угадай

Rainbow Reservoir – Kate Moss With A Moustache

Kate Moss With A Moustache is taken from the Coco Sleeps Around EP that will be released by Oddbox Records early next month. It’s a jolly indiepop romp not too far from what The Lovely Eggs are/were doing and sets up the rest of the EP nicely for when I finally get to hear it. It’s out on limited edition 7″ (250 copies) and you can pre-order it from here. You can still pick up the bands debut EP from here on a pay what you want basis. Herlights – One Day

Well I am back from my holidays and away from all the punk I have been listening too on bandcamp during that period as well and there is more to come on that another time. Not sure what struck me initially about the One Day EP by Russian band Herlights. It may have been the name or the cover but I am glad I gave it a listen as it is a fine little EP mixing post-punk (those vocals alone) with shoegaze/dreampop and some fine drone/krautrock inspired programming too. Standout track for me is Morning Song which takes all those … Continue reading Herlights – One Day

Milkmustache – Imagine Us Together

Milkmustache are a Chinese Shoegaze band who hail from the city of Shenzhen. Given the tracks here they could easily have come from the city of dreaming spires instead. Actually thinking about it you would have to head further north to Leeds because there is more than a passing resemblance to The Pale Saints rather than Ride on these tracks even down to the song titles such as Dolphin and Shell Button. Those two songs are the highlights here being melodic, delicate and sometimes haunting. Dreamy spires indeed! Imagine Us Together is out via the BoringProductions label. Follow the labels … Continue reading Milkmustache – Imagine Us Together

Efialtis – Κολοσσιαίο Γυναικείο Κεφάλι 7″

Efialtis are a London based Greek/Cypriot band who play a pulsating rhythmic and militant brand of punk. They sing in Greek and I really do hope they are sticking two fingers up to whoever is peeing them off. Regardless of the language the songs on this EP are simply fantastic with the anthem like Malaria being the standout track for me. Crank it right up… It’s out now on 7″ via La Vida Es Un Mus Discos or buy it digitally from the label’s bandcamp page. Continue reading Efialtis – Κολοσσιαίο Γυναικείο Κεφάλι 7″

The Wolfhounds – Now I’m A Killer

Now I’m A Killer is taken from The Wolfhound’s new album Untied Kingdom (…or how to come to terms with your culture) that will be released on Oddbox Records in October. It will be their first album comprising of entirely new music for over twenty five years. Now I’m A Killer is a snarling track that demonstrates that class is timeless in the Wolfhound’s case as this could easily be lifted from one of their Pink Label or Midnight Music releases of yesteryear. As for the album’s cover it’s that wonderful photo taken this past new years eve in Manchester. … Continue reading The Wolfhounds – Now I’m A Killer

The Fireworks – All The Time

All The Time is taken from The Fireworks new EP entitled Black and Blue. It’s a 1980’s inspired fuzzy indiepop track which is catchy, addictive and most importantly, as demonstrated by the video, FUN! The rest of the EP mixes up the indiepop template a fair bit and if you are a fan of C86 and it’s ilk you will love it. The EP is out now on 10″ vinyl via Shelflife Records or if you are still in the EU it’s best to pick it up from the band’s bandcamp page or Rough Trade. Bandcamp Continue reading The Fireworks – All The Time
