Made of Paper is lovely dreamy indiepop from Austin’s Why Bonnie. Catchy melodic music with tender, wistful female vocals. Impressive to say the least. Swirlpool – now there is a shoegazing band name if I have ever heard one – hail from Regensburg, Germany. They make a sensual mix of indie and shoegaze that you can immerse and easily lose yourself in. It features three dream-pop tracks complete with the band’s trademark sullen vocals which give a strong atmospheric feel to the songs none more so than on Wasted Youth. More twee influenced indiepop from the Russian band Verbludes. Кошмары sounds quite jolly but once you translate the title (Nightmares) and the lyrics into English is not all smiles and handclaps as you may have been lead to believe! Regardless of all of that it’s a catchy and bouncy track none the less! It’s pretty much the same formula on Пустые слова (Blank Words) which also contains some excellent boy/girl vocals. The result? This two track single with a tongue in cheek title from Jakarta’s Dismantled label is not a bad way to start 2018. Sugarsting’s Chasing Pony is a pretty damn effective and infectious track that pulls in both indiepop and indie rock complete with wonderful female vocals. Flip side Larry by Ache is a far rockier affair that took a couple of plays for me to appreciate but I certainly appreciate it now. Available from here.
