Something For The Weekend? Three From Today’s Inbox

This weeks pack of three features three bands whose latest tracks turned up in today’s very busy Bandcamp inbox…. Egoism – What Are We Doing? Australians Egoism make catchy indiepop/dreampop tunes and What Are We Doing? is no exception. Featuring addictive vocals and a hook laden melody, it’s their best song to date to these ears. Facebook Newmoon – Collide Into Me I have not heard Belgian band Newmoon, who have been around for a few years now, before. That’s a shame as Collide Into Me is a lovely, gentle dreampop song, despite the maudlin words, that tugs at ones … Continue reading Something For The Weekend? Three From Today’s Inbox

Tokyo Tea Room – Always Tomorrow

On Always Tomorrow Tokyo Tea Room produce music that crosses dream pop, psychedelia and Balearic beats. Heavenly vocals mix it up with downtempo, sometimes dubby electronica whilst the translucent guitars do their thing. It’s almost spiritual in parts and the artwork, which reminds me of ambient cover sleeves from the early 1990s, adds to that feel. A tune as great as the band’s name! Mitimitis – Abrilar

I first discovered Chilean band Mitimitis via the Goodbye Idiots II compilation that was put out on Stupid Decisions at the end of last year. After a couple of compilation appearances they released the Abrilar EP via Gemelo Parásito Records at the beginning of last month and it features four feeling lo-fi indiepop tracks. The EP opens with the instrumental and wittily named Pijamas Harvey before heading on to the twee/c86 inspired Ella Flotó Sobre Mi Y Voló Un Auto Con Su Rayo Laser. 7up is a laid back affair as is the tuneful and melodic Esteban Maravilla with it’s … Continue reading Mitimitis – Abrilar

Redhead – Spiral

Redhead is the new project from Andrew Simmonds, ex member and songwriter for Donna Hayward. On this, his debut EP, Simmonds is joined by members of Astragal and Groundhog Day. Not being familiar with Donna Haywards work Spiral is an engaging listen that crosses into various territories such as alt-rock and post-punk. The EP also gets stronger the further in it gets and by the time the closer Name (Room) ends you may, like me, head back to the first track and start all over again. It’s certainly one for those who like listening to angst riddled music. Spiral is … Continue reading Redhead – Spiral

Tara – Wander

For their second track New York based Tara wanted to make a danceable track with the same instruments/approach they used on their first single Second Guess. Parts of the Wander remind me of any number of tracks which were all the rage in the indie dance clubs circa 1988-1991 whilst, for those not as old as me!, other parts emphasise the blissful harmonies and ethereal vocals heard on the aforementioned first single. Which ever way you look (listen?) at it, it’s a pleaser. Facebook Continue reading Tara – Wander

The Color Waves – The Bay / Paper Tiger

Hazy, soothing and ethereal are just a few of the words previously used to describe The Color Waves music. Previously a two piece featuring two ex-members of All My Friends it now sounds like, and I could be mistaken here, that the band are now just down to Garry Flockhart Hoggan. Not that it makes a difference because they are still producing yearning, dreamy and mellow music that you can just drift off to, letting your imagination do the rest. That’s two more tracks for my imaginary ambient chill-out playlist taken care of then! Facebook Continue reading The Color Waves – The Bay / Paper Tiger

Royal Landscaping Society – Clean

Spanish indiepop veterans Royal Landscaping Society are back with a new single and the second for their new label, Matinee Recordings. Clean is a sparkling synthpop/indiepop hybrid and is backed with band’s cover of The Softies I Love You More. Clean is being released digitally via Matinee Recordings later this week. An album, titled Means of Production, follows later this summer. Facebook Continue reading Royal Landscaping Society – Clean
