Still Corners – Horses at Night

Horses At Night is the first we have heard from Still Corners for a couple of years now. It’s a non album track (which I hope means a new long player will be due soon) and on first listens it reminds me of a female fronted Radio Dept which gets a massive “wahey” from me. Horses At Night is out now digitally from the usual places. Facebook Homepage Continue reading Still Corners – Horses at Night

Rodney Cromwell – Black Dog EP

Black Dog was one of the outstanding tracks on Cromwell’s Age of Anxiety album released back in June. It’s here in shortened and extended versions that hark back to the golden age of Synth Britannia. However it’s the Rod’s Glitchy Disco Mix of You Will Struggle that steals the show as most of the original vocals are dumped and the cut up ones that remain are used to great effect over a contagious beat. Out on limited CD and digital from from here. Facebook Continue reading Rodney Cromwell – Black Dog EP

Girl One and The Grease Guns – The Shatterproof Man

Girl One and The Grease Guns have released their seventh and final 7″ single via Squirrel Records (who also are sadly shutting down). The band may well release music in the future but not in 7″ vinyl format. As for this release The Shatterproof Man carries on in the same vein as previous singles being an energetic and elaborate electronic based pop song which deserves to be kept spinning. The flip side A Steel Cat In A Glass Jar is a different kettle of fish entirely being an experimental track sounding like a mix between industrial music and a film … Continue reading Girl One and The Grease Guns – The Shatterproof Man

GreyVision – Waves/Clouds

Italian act greyVision have released two EP’s this month that hark back to post punk coldwave and darkwave, two areas I have been rediscovering & exploring recently. Both Waves and Clouds veer towards minimalism with nods to both 4AD and Mute as well as the likes of Kraftwerk and Dead can Dance. You can get both EPs on a pay what you want basis from bandcamp. Factice factory – !NADA!

Just imagine post punk bands on Mute such as The Normal if they were around today. Or Belgian minimal acts such as The Names being remixed 35 plus years later. If you can then you may get an idea of how French/Swiss act Factice Factory sound. Two excellent slabs of synth pop harking back to the post punk era taken from the forthcoming album !Nada!. They are currently available as a free download from the band’s bandcamp page. Facebook Continue reading Factice factory – !NADA!

The Radio Dept. – Occupied

The Radio Dept. have released their first physical product for five years. Occupied is the first single to be taken from their forthcoming album. The title track is a moody synth pop affair and is backed with It Looked Like Heaven (But Feels Like Hell) and a reworked version of the title track called Down Down Down (Liminals Remix) Occupied is limited to 1000 copies – get it from here. September Round-Up

Blimey – where has the month gone? I know I have been busy at work but. Anyway here is a round up of what I have been listening too these past few weeks. And if you want to listen whilst you read (or just listen) here is a Minlogs playlist covering tracks from this post. I am sure you have heard it already but if not The Radio Dept. released their first single in four years Death to Fascism at the beginning of the month to coincide with the Swedish general election. Mighty fine it is too (as well as … Continue reading September Round-Up

Clearing The Decks

I have bookmarked a lot of music to mention but time prevents me from writing about them all individually so this post is a round up of them all serving as my must buy list too! Note: if you want to listen to a companion playlist to this post head over here. The Hundredth Anniversary released their Wreckers EP back in March. Not sure why I didn’t mention it then as it’s great. Another great release on Oddbox Records. Spanish indie poppers Band A Part have a compilation of their early material and demos out on Elefant Records. It’s a … Continue reading Clearing The Decks

Summer Heart – U Got All I’m Looking 4

Fresh from being selected as Band Of The Day in the Guardian David Alexander aka Summer Heart has released his latest single and it is poppier than ever. Despite the horrendous title it manages to maintain originality to distinguish it from the commercial pap that constantly floods our ears these days reminding me of the Balearic/chill out tunes of old. Mind you I actually prefer the flip side Beat Of Your Heart that mixes indiepop and synthpop to great effect. Facebook Continue reading Summer Heart – U Got All I’m Looking 4
