July Round Up #1

As I mentioned the other day it’s been a bit quiet around here due to a job change so this weekend will be two posts dedicated to catching up on what I have been listening too over the past couple of weeks. Hyperdream – Selfish Dream Excellent shoegaze from Mexico. More than a few nods towards MBV (a speeded up version of Swallow?) both soundwise and cover art. Really liking this one. Facebook Flowerbox – Flowerbox An interesting and strong debut EP covering both indiepop and shoegaze. Most of the songs are slow paced which gives you time to appreciate … Continue reading July Round Up #1

Blanco – A Place For Youthful Days

Blanco’s follow up to last Octobers Wake With Moon Tide covers both sides of the indiepop coin. Isolated City is a laid back affair packed to the rafters with gloomy lyrics whilst Paradise is more upbeat despite the foreboding the lyrics hint at. However the potential misfortune is soon forgotten with the boy/girl vocals and the guitar/synth combination that invoke memories of 1960’s psychedelic pop which will soon have you nodding along. It’s available digitally from here. Continue reading Blanco – A Place For Youthful Days

The Groove Farm – Back Of My Mind

The Groove Farm are back! Back of My Mind is taken from the forthcoming Groovy Pharmacy album. It’s split between the bands recent Dandelion Radio Session on one side with brand new studio recordings on the other. The band always erred on the frantic, psychedelic side of indiepop and Back of My Mind is thankfully no exception! Good to have (hear?) them back. Groovy Pharmacy is out in June 2018 via Raving Pop Blast! Recordings in vinyl, CD and digital formats. Pre-order it from here. Facebook Continue reading The Groove Farm – Back Of My Mind

Like You Less – A Records I Like Playlist (September 2017 #1)

Well we are well into the month so it’s about time for a playlist rounding up the various tracks that have been catching my ear via the usual places. That’s not when I have been listening to the new album, The Punishment of Luxury, from Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark which is surprisingly very good. I have also been catching up with 2013’s English Electric which is even better. Back to the playlist which features some excellent tracks from the likes of Jetstream Pony, Tough Age, Glass Arcades, Closure and many more! Peter Hook – Dancing Madly Backwards

You don’t hear much new stuff from Peter Hook who seems to tour solidly with his Peter Hook and the Light project these days – and most excellent they are too. He has surfaced with a track on Cleopatra Records with his version of Captain Beyond’s Dancing Madly Backwards which shares a limited 12″ record with a Ministry version of the same track. You can buy it from here. He even provides two remixes of his cover under his Man Ray guise. Buy digitally from here. Facebook Continue reading Peter Hook – Dancing Madly Backwards

Is Bliss – Into A Dream

I have always liked droning music and as I get older as find myself being drawn to it even more. Into A Dream by Is Bliss is a fine example mixing psychedelia with hypnotic and dreamy melodies that draws its inspiration from the likes as 80’s bands such as Loop and Spacemen Three, krautock and shoegaze. My only complaint is that it could have been a bit longer so we could hear that sitar for even more. Into A Dream taken from the The Honeycomb Explosion EP which is released via Club AC30 on the 19th May. It’s available as … Continue reading Is Bliss – Into A Dream

Flyying Colours – It’s Tomorrow Now

It’s Tomorrow Now is the first single to be taken from Flyying Colour’s debut album Mindfullness that is due to be released in September on Club AC30. The album becomes an intriguing prospect after listening to this given that it’s a hybrid of psychedelic sounds, rock guitars and noise pop. Now there is a night out. Maybe tomorrow?
