Gingerlys – Jumprope EP

Any record featuring female vocals and fuzzy guitars is going to be a winner in my book and the debut EP from Gingerlys is no exception especially on Summer Cramps which could develop into a terrace chant. I think this EP will be on permanent play for a while. The Jumprope EP is released next week on Shelflife Records on 7″ vinyl and digital formats. Pre-order it here. You can get free live/demo versions of some of the EP from here and here. Facebook Continue reading Gingerlys – Jumprope EP

Amida – Boring Birth

Amida have been plugging away for a few years now with their excellent singles and live shows. They have finally released their debut album and despite the fact it contains 13 tracks it’s all over just over the half hour mark. Now that’s my type of album. Excellent jangling and melodic indiepop invoking everyone from The Chills to the Wedding Present. It’s out now on Jigsaw Records or buy digitally from the band. The Pristines – Tricksy Buttons EP

The Pristines have been around for a number of years now releasing music via the likes of Sunday Records, Edition 59, Cloudberry Records to name but a few alongside a number self released albums. Here the title track is a lo-fi, alt-rock tinged six minute ride whilst the flip side is a new version of old fave That Girl’s In Love With You. Available digitally with a bonus track for a few pennies at Bandcamp. Facebook Discogs Continue reading The Pristines – Tricksy Buttons EP

Dora Maar – Dora Maar

Dora Maar hail from Edinburgh but you can hear echoes of Glasgow’s Postcard Records in their music whether it’s Josef K or The Go-Betweens. Their jangle pop may be reminiscent of bands who appeared on C86 but I suggest that it’s C81 where they would have the snugger fit. Check out Jessica Says at least – it’s simply sublime It’s out now on cassette (not many left – hurry!) or digital download via Bandcamp. Homepage Continue reading Dora Maar – Dora Maar
