Catching Up. Again!

It’s been a busy time at work and as you can tell by the lack of posts I have not had much chance to listen to much new stuff. Preparing for the Culture Bunker’s 5th Anniversary night hasn’t helped either but that’s one chore I am happy to have. Enough of me moaning. Here are some of the tracks I have been listening too. No words from me either! Rocketship/Pia Fraus – Outer Otherness/Cloudy Eyes Split 7″ single which you can get from here. And just as I write this post Rocketship, who offered parts of their track for remixing, … Continue reading Catching Up. Again!

The Darling Buds – Complicated

Complicated is taken from the new EP by The Darling Buds which is also their first recorded output for over twenty five years. Titled Evergreen it features four tracks and is due for release in mid-April on 10″ vinyl or cassette. Complicated is more Crawdaddy or Erotica rather than Pop Said but amongst the riffs there are some pop sensibilities. It will be interesting to hear how the rest of the EP pans out. The limited edition green vinyl has sold out already but it’s still available in black. You can pre-order from here. Homepage Continue reading The Darling Buds – Complicated

Something For The Weekend? Three revisited

This week’s threesome covers new releases from bands I have mentioned before. Verbludes – долги Indiepop from Russia. Apparently it’s about being in debt. I think my ears are! The Death Of Pop – Like Always This is the first we have heard from The Death Pop for almost a year. It’s a finely polished tune encompassing their jangling guitar sound. It’s also their best track for some time. Facebook Peach Club – Mission Impossible Another assault on the senses from Norwich based riot grrrls Peach Club. Mission Impossible is an honest and memorable blast at sexism and double standards … Continue reading Something For The Weekend? Three revisited

Linda Guilala – Abstinencia

Linda Guilala and Elefant Records raid the excellent Psiconáutica album for yet another single in the shape of Abstinencia. However given that the new song Mucho Más Joven completely blows the a-side away maybe, given that this is just a digital release, it should have been selected as the single instead. Hopefully more new material will be along soon – well once the band get their numerous festival appearances out of the way! Get it digitally from here. Abstinencia Mucho Más Joven Facebook Continue reading Linda Guilala – Abstinencia

Bruising/Personal Best – Split 7″

Two of my favourite discoveries of recent years have joined forces for a forthcoming split 7″ single for the Too Pure singles club. Personal Best give us mishapen guitars and lyrics that bite whilst Bruising take a more romantic approach with a sweeter, candy coated effort. Neither side of the split disappoint and this excellent 7″ is definately one for your valentine! You will need to subscribe to the Too Pure Singles club to get it although it may be available separately at some point in the future. The Personal Best track can be picked up digitally via their Bandcamp … Continue reading Bruising/Personal Best – Split 7″

Something For The Weekend? Three I Meant To Write About….

Three releases that are on my “must write about that” list… Port Sulphur – The Lane Featuring Davy Henderson and Vic Godard. No words can express how great this so I guess that’s why I have avoided writing in detail about it. Just listen! Cayetana – Camp Cope Two tracks from the rapidly improving to these ears Cayetana. Mesa is catchy alt-rock whilst Trails is slower paced which shows off the band’s excellent songwriting. Homepage Facebook Girlfrendo – Demo There is no rush in writing about this one as the songs are over twenty years old. It has been released … Continue reading Something For The Weekend? Loners – Phantom/Stay

Two fine slabs of excellent instrumental dreampop/indiepop for you today courtesy of, new to me, Loners. This is blissful stuff with both tracks quickly grabbing my attention and I soon wane to everything else around me. Stay reminds me of a hundred different things yet maintains it’s originality whilst Phantom sounds like the perfect start and/or end to every mixtape (erm sorry playlist) you have ever made. Available, as ever, on bandcamp. I have been investigating further and Honey, taken from the recent album Happy People II, is as beautiful a track as you are likely to hear in 2017. … Continue reading Loners – Phantom/Stay

Candybomber – Not Completely Sure

Not Completely Sure is the debut single from Australian based Candybomber who feature Stewart from The Kensingtons in their ranks. It has got everything a great pop song needs: Fuzzy jangling guitars – check! Catchy vocals – check! Singalong lyrics – check! No wonder it has been stuck in my head for a few days now. I am looking forward to the full EP which is due for release in April but in the meantime go and get the track from Bandcamp on a pay what you want basis. Facebook Continue reading Candybomber – Not Completely Sure

The Glow Cats – I Don’t Feel Your Pain EP

Entertaining new EP from Danish indiepoppers The Glow Cats which is their first release since 2015’s Cat Bits compilation on the Jigsaw Records label. Like their previous work the I Don’t Feel Your Pain EP is full of catchy, fun, melodic pop tunes that are guaranteed to put a smile on your face none more so than the excellent We Changed… It’s available on a pay what you want basis from bandcamp. Various Artists – CD16

I spotted this compilation over the weekend. It’s inspired by the 30th anniversary of the release of the NME C86 cassette and features a number of bands championed on this blog including the likes of Pale Spectres, Yumi Yumi Hip Hop, E’Spaniel and The BV’s. It’s available on limited edition CD via Peruvian label Impermeable Records. It’s also available as a free download. Facebook Continue reading Various Artists – CD16
