The Catherines – Sorry, But Your Suicide Note Is Really Funny

I haven’t really got The Catherines or their appeal. Their music, artwork, song titles and lyrics all seem straight out of the C86/indiepop template recipe book. Don’t get me wrong they can make a good tune but it just seems to be the same one churned out time and time again. It all just seems to be too cliched for my liking. That said, and to create a balance, Sorry, But Your Suicide Note Is Really Funny is a catchy song and maybe it’s the addition of strong female vocals that gives it some spark which generates interest to these … Continue reading The Catherines – Sorry, But Your Suicide Note Is Really Funny

Tinsel Heart – Mona’s Eyes/American Friend

Could this be the long awaited 7″ release on Matinee? I certainly hope so as we have been waiting for Malmo’s Tinsel Hearts to deliver a debut single for some time now. It sounds like they had gone down The Redskins route at the beginning of Mona’s Eyes as it gets a starts off like Lean On Me. Whilst not as funky it is still as dancey. American Friend sees the band returning back to familiar 1980’s jangling indie guitar territory. Tinsel Heart have given us two contrasting songs but more importantly, two very good songs indeed. Now is it … Continue reading Tinsel Heart – Mona’s Eyes/American Friend

Lost and Found – A Records I Like Playlist (April 2018 #1)

Unfortunately the past ten days have seen me laid low by a viral infection hence the lack of posts. I have updated the playlist I had ready to go two weeks ago so it’s a bit of a bumper crop. Thankfully these tracks are more pleasant in their infectiousness than what I have been suffering with. Enjoy! Click on the image to start the playlist. More playlists can be found here and the Playmoss page is here. Continue reading Lost and Found – A Records I Like Playlist (April 2018 #1)

These include tracks by The Angel Makers, Seeing Hands, The Catherines, Lasitud and Klass II amongst others. As ever click on the image to start. Enjoy! More playlists can be found here and the Playmoss page is here. Continue reading Aurora Lights – A Records I Like Playlist (March 2018 #2)

If, like me, you have the original version you can pick these two tracks up for nowt from the band’s own page but given how glorious Combine is I suggest you chuck in a couple of nicker. Facebook Continue reading Seven Tin Stars – Doppelgänger

Desert Plants – A Records I Like Playlist (March 2018 #1)

Here is a brand new playlist for the first Monday of month featuring the usual fare of indiepop, janglepop, dreampoop and shoegaze. Some I have written about, some not. Battery Point – A Memory For Today

Sarah Records revivalists Battery Point deliver another fine EP that in part pays homage to the aforementioned label. Another Year and Time are on the melodic side of dreampop/shoegaze rather than the harsh version practised by Secret Shine – see they are not paying that much homage! That does come however with their cover of Another Sunny Day’s You Should All Be Murdered which covers this classic track with a layer of jangling guitars but sadly fails to create the beauty of the original. It’s not a bad effort mind! Facebook Continue reading Battery Point – A Memory For Today
