Three remixed post-punk tracks is today’s theme.
Antipole & Paris Alexander – Sad Lover, Desolated (Dave Clarke Remix)
The Baron of Techno (© John Peel) Dave Clarke gives this one a driving makeover which does not stop until it hits the dance floor. Parts of the original remains but the harder, harsh and sometimes brutal techno sound works wonders over the delicate original.
Modern English – Not Fake (Twin Tribes Remix)
Not Fake was one of the standout tracks from last years 1 2 3 4 long player. For me it saw the band returning to the sound made famous whilst they were on 4AD. Whilst the original was a swirling retro affair the remix replaces the twisting guitars with a respectful electronic sound that work so well with the vocals. It’s pretty decent to be honest!
Blind Dreams – Дом (Regulaar remix)
I must admit that the original version of this track, which can be found on March’s Isle Of The Dead EP, did not really grab me. It was a very bleak track with the vocals, that you could imagine placing in one of Wagner’s Ring cycles, not really winning me over.
Here however the slowness of the original is replaced by fast paced and pulsating electronic beats that take my mind of the vocals which are relegated to the background. There are some nice atmospheric touches throughout too. Another tune for the dark wave dance floor.
