It’s an extended weekend here in the UK so here is part one of a round-up what I have have been listening too and in many cases what I have finally got around to listening too!
I noticed that US Shoegazers Highspire have returned after a decade and a half away. Their new single Gloria features John of Fleeting Joys & Laura of Tears Run Rings and it covers all what you require from the shoegazing template. The track is taken from a forthcoming new album and is backed by two non-album tracks in the form of Drifting and Pray. Order from Shelflife Records.
I have been listening to the new album from Austrian outfit Autor quite a bit these past couple of weeks. Indeed it got another spin today! Titled Kommen und Gehen it features that shouty and fiery female lead post-punk I am a sucker for. It features eight songs in less than 22 minutes with Die Ärztin and Ultra Gute Arbeit being my pick of a very good bunch. Get it from here.
Still on the post-punk trail we head to Copenhagen for the new EP from the newly expanded Jakobe. Perfect Pitch features six tracks with various degrees of shoutiness and loudness. It’s not all fast paced and noise mind with the songs having different structures resulting in balances between the vocals and guitars. It can be purchased from Qobuz.
Australian band Slack Times new single was originally recorded as part of the sessions for last years Gone Things EP. It’s now been completed and the result is a nice slice of lo-fi jangle pop resplendent with glockenspiels. Get it from here.
Boston based The Shallows have had their last four singles compiled as the Peace In The Pain EP by the Brighton based label Shore Dive Records. The latest single, Red Shift, which came out earlier this month is another fine example of the ethereal dreampop the band have perfected. You can get this via the label in a range of formats.
The latest single from Dottie is the hazy shoegaze that has become synonymous with their name. Adoration doesn’t disappoint as it drifts and glides across the dreampop landscape. It has an ambience about it. Buy Adoration from here.
