WUT – Mingling with the Thorns

I have been on a retro indiepop trip of late and if I did not know better I would have said that Mingling With The Thorns was a long lost classic from the C86/Sarah Records (insert own lazy cliche here) era. It’s the second album from the Canadian band who feature members of Knife Pleat, Love Cuts, Tough Age, and Jock Tears.

The album, with it’s judgements on the ills of modern society, manages to sound like a combination of Rote Kapelle, The Fizzbombs, The Shop Assistants, The Flatmates and The Rosehips to name but a few to great effect. The title track, along with songs like Beuys Oh Beuys and Here For You are sure to be in the end of the year lists of many a listener and rightly so. Twee as fuck? You bet!

Mingling with the Thorns is out now on Vinyl from Happy Happy Birthday To Me Records or you can pick it up digitally from the band.
