What Others Are Saying #7

Another three releases I have been listening to this past week or so, summed up by others on the net. Please add these sites to your reading lists, RSS feeds, sidebars, bookmarks etc. Or at least give them a visit!

Lightheaded – Good Good Great!

“Fully realized and full of shiny tonal surfaces, this stuff goes down like honey. Lightheaded do so much here with just a few elements. And yet, the tunes on Good Good Great are distinct, with each a little pop gem. Vocally, this aligns with the recent Jeanines records on this imprint, and musically with the Papercuts and Peel Dream Magazine ones. But Lightheaded are pursuing their own thing and this is just a hint, I’m sure, of future glories to come.”

Good Good Great! is out now via Slumberland Records.

Red Pants – Not Quite There Yet

“Dubbed by a whole host of the micro-blogs that matter as fuzz-pop and noise rock when covering the flyer singles to this Not Quite There Yet album, it is perhaps a tad superficially strange that this Red Pants release is a collaboration with a Meritorio Records label that specializes in jangle-pop and all its associated and adjacent genres…………..Drone, jangle, noise, or fuzz—who cares what it actually is? This album is truly superb.”

Not Quite There Yet is out now via Meritorio Records.

Voyvoda – Autochthonous

“Their distinct blend marries Balkan and Orthodox melodies with a spectrum of post-punk, darkwave, and indie echoes. Their overall sound is reminiscent of Fugazi, The Stranglers, and The Damned as they dive deeply into the chaotic history of their native land.”

Via Post-Punk.com

“Autochthonous, heralds a return to the band’s raw, cynical post-punk ethos, enriched with the ever present dark folk undertones, disco rhythms, and the passionate authenticity of Voyvoda’s frontman Filip S. Filipov.”

Via DIY Conspiracy – contains an excellent interview!

Autochthonous is out now via the band.
