Fawns of Love Featuring Calvin Johnson – Ambrose Pierce

Fawns of Love have released a new single featuring the Calvin Johnson (Beat Happening/Dub Narcotic Sound System/Halo Benders). Titled Ambrose Pierce, it’s based on the story of Ambrose Bierce, a veteran of the American Civil War who was also an author, literary critic, poet and journalist. He vanished without trace whilst accompanying Pancho Villa’s army during the Mexican Civil war in 1913. His disappearance remains a mystery to this day.

As for the song, it is driven by the band’s trademark 4AD inspired sound, with Jenny Andreotti’s ethereal voice being in sharp contrast to Johnson’s droning vocal style. It’s a haunting sound as the song swirls around, enveloping the listener.

Ambrose Pierce is taken from the forthcoming album Fear The Softest Gaze that will be released at the end of October. It features a Robin Guthrie (Cocteau Twins) version of the title track. Fear The Softest Gaze can be pre-ordered from Kingfisher Bluez in digital and a limited edition Periwinkle vinyl version.
