There is so much to admire on the new EP from Portuguese shoegazers Moon Cowboy from the courage of Dawn Watson, who inspired the title track, to the mental health issues that Ricardo Fiel wishes to raise. There is also the charity that will see proceeds of this release go to.
As for the music, the title track is a shimmering and eventually resounding track about overcoming abuse, the strength found in resilience and helping others. Second track, The Longest Road is a pulsating, vibrant track that mixes alt-Americana with dreampop coated with psychedelia.
However, it’s the closing track Til The End, that inspires me the most. Fiel writes that he has his “my own journey of overcoming panic attacks” and that the song “is a deeply emotional piece that encapsulates the feelings experienced during those times”. It’s an evocative but beautiful instrumental piece that reminds me of Spacemen Three at the height of their powers.
