The Shallows – Verdant

I must admit, all this female fronted shoegaze I have featured recently is starting to blur into one at the moment. Still! It can blur all it wants as far as I am concerned because the expansive ethereal dreampop sound found on Verdant is one that keeps me ticking over for sure.

Alongside the constant waves of guitar, the vocals of Jess Baggia reach gothic like proportions. One comparison would be the Crane’s Alison Shaw and the quality of Baggia’s voice gives the band a distinctive vocal weapon in their shoegaze arsenal.

The Boston (US) based band, who feature members (or ex-members) of other Boston based bands including This Bliss, Strangeways, The Milling Gowns, consist of the aforementioned Baggia alongside guitarist Brad Emerson, bassist Ben Didsbury and drummer Jason Keisch. They release their new album, Wave States in May. For now, you can pick up the single from here.
