Space Kelly – Come To My World : A Tribute To Sarah

Berlin’s Space Kelly, who has been making music for a few years now, is a new name on me. Without sounding disparaging their previous output is not for me but this tribute to Sarah Records sounds like it’s right up my street. Or Air Ballon Road!

The band’s Ken Steen reminisces about living in Hamburg three decades ago, attending gigs on a student budget and buying singles from the likes of the Field Mice, the Sea Urchins and Another Sunny Day from the back of cars. And how did this release come about? Sitting alone with his guitar during lockdown, Ken was transported back to those days, back to playing along to Brighter’s Laurel, an album that first inspired him to play the guitar, and back to the moment he first connected with Sarah with Come To My World being the result.

Originally released on vinyl via the Japanese label KiliKiliVilla a few months back it’s now going out in CD and digital formats. Alongside that vinyl version of course. There are two preview tracks currently streaming. The first is a cover of The Field Mice track Emma’s House which stays pretty faithful to the original. The second is a pretty good attempt at Heavenly’s Shallow. The obvious change is the male vocals which gives some contrast to Amelia Fletcher’s original. It’s a song that someone describes on Youtube as the “best break-up song that ever there was”.

Come To My World : A Tribute To Sarah is out via Lounge Records on 17 March 2023. pre-order from here. For those who cannot wait that long it’s still available at KiliKiliVilla.
