Recommended Releases 20/11/2022

Continuing the series of posting albums and/or EPs as and when they are released (or usually a bit after!) as a follow up to the initial new tracks/singles posts posted on this blog. Sample the release via the You Tube track then dive in to the full release.

Veps – Oslo Park

His Brother is the second single from Oslo based Veps. It’s a punk/Riot Grrrl inspired indiepop tune that deals with comparing an awful partner with their brother.”

(UFO) “The new single from Oslo’s Veps is a slice of quirky indiepop. It’s a bit like Devo if they were on the NME C86 tape.”

(Mooney Tunes) “Or it could be simply about viewing the sun from the moon. More overthinking on my part I guess as I listen to this poppy, fun and jangling tune.”

Oslo Park is out now via Kanine Records.

Soft Blue Shimmer – Love Lives in the Body

(Prism Of Feeling) “The fusion of noise pop and shoegaze remains and like previous some of their material it contains ethereal undertones – it’s very Lush-like towards the fade out at the end. The vocals ride those waves quite nicely whilst the words are reflective and despondent. ”

Love Being is the second single to be taken from the forthcoming album Love Lives in the Body from the Los Angeles based dream poppers Soft Blue Shimmer. It’s another glistening effort reminding me of music from the early 1990s. The ethereal undercurrents of the previous single remain whilst the vocals of Meredith Ramond remind me of Miki Berenyi’s in parts.”

Love Lives in the Body is out now on Other People Records.

The Lunar Towers – Hurry Up And Wait

“London’s The Lunar Towers have impressed me with their two singles to date which mixed elements of punk, power-pop and new wave. I previously wrote that the bands music would not have been out of place on the wonderful Messthetics compilations which featured music from 1979-1983. Nothing on the band’s third single Southern Love will dissuade me from those thoughts given it’s a short burst of retro power pop focussing on a new crush. Does it result in unhappiness or joy? Give it a spin and find out!”

Hurry Up And Wait is out now, being self released by the band.
