Circles, which is the new EP from Ontario based Basement Revolver, collates the bands four singles they released between August 2021 and January of this year.
The title track is gentle dreampop with the voice of Chrisy Hurn-Morrison standing out. Tunnel Vision is grunge inspired shoegaze (or should that be the other away around?) and despite losing ground to the noisy guitars and percussion the vocals eventually surface.
Skin is a lovely and beautiful song about body image and has an ethereal presence running throughout. The video reflects the feelings generated by the song to a tee. Final track Transatlantic merges the plucky, gritty guitars with the bands celestial side and stays long in the mind after the EP ends.
Circles is an impressive collection of songs that come together nicely. The vocals are particularly striking. It’s out now on Sonic Unyon. The band’s second album, titled Embody, follows later this month and will include the whole Circle EP. Embody is available to pre-order on vinyl from here or digitally from Bandcamp.
