Los Lucha hails from Glasgow and is comprised of just the one fella Samuel Fawkes who writes, performs and produces the songs. Fawkes writes that he is “heavily influenced by Dean Wareham, the Velvet Underground, Beat Happening and the C86 scene.”.
He is not kidding and I thought Galaxie 500 when I first heard On The Ropes and the backing vocals of Helena Philips only adds to that effect.
Sundays Clownis a lovely instrumental comedown track in the vein of Brian Eno being remixed by the Red House Painters whilst Star City strays back into Wareham’s territory. Final track Canyon Calls is a dreamy, slowcore track with words hinting at the need for a fresh start. In short, it’s a beautiful EP full of melancholy, sorrow and dreams.
Los Lucha is out now on cassette and digital formats via Lazy Death Records.
