The wonderfully named Sissy Space Echo & The Invisible Collaborators have band members with an impressive pedigree who have performed with bands such as Pop Threat, The Manhattan Love Suicides, The Blanche Hudson Weekend and more recently Girl One And The Grease Guns. They certainly know how to name a band alright.
Theremin effects are wonderfully utilised on The Day The Earth Caught Fire alongside lovely beeps, bleeps and bobs! Given the title of the song, the use of said effects and the artwork it should not take out much to work the song’s homage to 1950 sci-fi movies. Over on the flip, we get early post-punk inspired electronica coupled with some lovely vocals from Caroline McChrystal.
The Day The Earth Caught Fire/They’ll Fix You (They Fix Everything) is out now on 7″ vinyl and digital formats from the Greek label Old Bad Habits. UK buyers can pick up a copy from Squirrel Records.
