(Bandcamp Friday) Singles Going Steady

A round-up of singles I purchased on the last Bandcamp Friday of the year.

Pastel Coast – Dial

Dial sees (hears!) the french indie-poppers heading onto the dancefloor as this blend of Saint Etienne and New Order testifies. Synth-pop-tastic!

Très Oui – Sad Boys/Oh Guitar

On Très Oui first release for over thirty months, we get two slices of jangle that err on the side of pop! Both tracks contain well crafted and laid back melodies alongside vocals that reek of heartache and emotion.

Films on Song – I’m Starting to See You in a New Light

Virginians Films On Song head over to 1980s Scotland on their latest single release. You can hear echoes of Lloyd Cole, Roddy Frame and Edwyn Collins on I’m Starting to See You in a New Light which I am sure you will agree is no bad thing. Most good if a bit slightly too long…..

Traveling With Monika – Farewell

Bangkok’s Traveling With Monika rapidly follow up last months Faded with new single Farewell. Nisarat Jongwisan vocals standout on this dreampop effort that dispenses with the fuzz found on the previous track. The occasional Morricone inspired strings are pretty nice too.

The Reds, Pinks & Purples – Dahlias and Rain

I doubt Bandcamp Friday would quite be the same without another release from Glenn Donaldson to purchase! It’s a hypnotic instrumental that you could imagine accompanying a French drama on Film 4 or Netflix. It’s backed with the band’s cover of Screaming Trees 1991 effort, Bed Of Roses.
