You know if you are going to replicate a sound you may as well do it properly and The Lousy Pop Group manage to do so with aplomb. Like many Indonesian bands before them, the band’s influences are firmly rooted in the sound of Sarah Records. One band in particular springs to mind and that’s The Field Mice. We heard opening track Days back in January and I noted then about the band’s twee-pop sound. Like the following track It’s So Awful it’s a beautiful song respectfully paying homage to days (no pun intended) long gone. The other tracks When I’m With You and Friends carry on in pretty much the same vein. Of course, it’s not original, far from it but it’s done with respect to the aforementioned band, label and Robert Wratten in particular. A fine EP indeed.
