Alpaca Sports – Just Like Them

Just Like Them is taken from the forthcoming mini album from Alpaca Sports entitled When You Need Me The Most. It’s a bouncy, joyful sounding indiepop tune but beware the double edged sword of the bittersweet lyrics! It’s out on Elefant Records or Luxury Records on October 2nd. It’s available on 10″ vinyl (1000 copies) or on CD complete with extra track (but no mention of a tacky badge!). You can also download Just Like Them for free from Elefant using the code 02EBQKXDQ7AT The band play an acoustic set at the Dufflecoat Records All Dayer in London on Saturday … Continue reading Alpaca Sports – Just Like Them

Exiles – I’ve Got Secrets Too

I’ve Got Secrets Too is the latest release from Brooklyn’s Exiles. Opening track Dawn Patrol is an excellent example of dreampop with shimmering guitars and vocals that pack a punch. It is certainly up there with the best that dream pop has to offer in 2015. However I am not sure about the rest of the EP as the other three tracks sound somewhat polished, samey and safe to me. Each song is somewhat constrained with the band unwilling to venture into the territory afforded to them by the opening track. Yes it is all pleasant enough and the vocals … Continue reading Exiles – I’ve Got Secrets Too

The Haywains – Bobbie Gentry’s Tears E.P

The Bobbie Gentry’s Tears EP is the new EP from indie veterans The Haywains. It features four well crafted lo-fi, DIY songs that cavort through the indiepop model with ease. It’s enjoyable stuff none more so than on Are You Making A Fool Out Of Somebody New? with it’s jangling guitars accompanied by regretful boy/girl vocals. It’s available on 7″ vinyl from Dufflecoat Records or digitally via the band’s bandcamp page. Homepage Continue reading The Haywains – Bobbie Gentry’s Tears E.P

Zipper – The Worst Day Of The Week

Currently no one does fuzzy indie pop better than Madrid’s Zipper in my view and their brand new single The Worst Day Of The Week isn’t going to see them relinquish that particular crown just yet. Pure pop from a great band on a great label…………. It’s out now on limited edition 7″ single via Dufflecoat Records. Get it (but save me a copy as I don’t get paid until next week!) Facebook Bandcamp Continue reading Zipper – The Worst Day Of The Week

September Round-Up

Blimey – where has the month gone? I know I have been busy at work but. Anyway here is a round up of what I have been listening too these past few weeks. And if you want to listen whilst you read (or just listen) here is a Minlogs playlist covering tracks from this post. I am sure you have heard it already but if not The Radio Dept. released their first single in four years Death to Fascism at the beginning of the month to coincide with the Swedish general election. Mighty fine it is too (as well as … Continue reading September Round-Up

Clearing The Decks

I have bookmarked a lot of music to mention but time prevents me from writing about them all individually so this post is a round up of them all serving as my must buy list too! Note: if you want to listen to a companion playlist to this post head over here. The Hundredth Anniversary released their Wreckers EP back in March. Not sure why I didn’t mention it then as it’s great. Another great release on Oddbox Records. Spanish indie poppers Band A Part have a compilation of their early material and demos out on Elefant Records. It’s a … Continue reading Clearing The Decks

Franny & Zooey – Bottled Up And Ready To Go

I must admit Franny & Zooey didn’t grab me on their Bananafish EP but this is more like it. Bottled Up And Ready To Go is your ready made indiepop soundtrack for the summer and is packed full of short, sweet and catchy pop songs none more so than I Love You. You must be one miserable sod if you don’t at least crack half a smile whilst listening to this. Bottled Up And Ready To Go is out on Dufflecoat Records as a limited edition CDR single or buy in digital formats direct from the band. Facebook Continue reading Franny & Zooey – Bottled Up And Ready To Go
