Stephen’s Shore – The Sun

The Sun is taken from the forthcoming album September Love by Swedish band Stephen’s Shore which is their first release in a couple of years. The Sun just shouts pop at you regardless of whether it’s indie, power or jangle pop. The album will be out in vinyl and digital formats via Spanish label Meritorio Records. You can pre-order it from here. Facebook Continue reading Stephen’s Shore – The Sun

Fawns of Love – Zine Days

I quite enjoy the Gothic tinged post-punk produced by the Fawns of Love. They mix Jenny Andreotti’s excellent vocals, that draw comparisons with those of the Cocteau’s Elizabeth Fraser, with a guitar based sound reminiscent of Joy Division/early New Order to great effect. Flip side Something Stupid is my pick of the two tracks here sounding like it was lifted straight from Garlands. Zine Days is available on 7″ and digital formats which you can order from here. The band even created a playlist of all the songs that inspired them whilst writing Zine Days. Amazingly the Cocteau Twins are … Continue reading Fawns of Love – Zine Days

Astro Children – Beneath the Visible Surface

Astro Children’s last single Straight For My Heart was impressive enough but they manage to go one better on this single. The title track is, thanks to the synths, dreamy and hypnotic whilst flip side Nora Flood hitches a lift with a slow burning shoegazing wagon. Both sides are guaranteed to get your head nodding in appreciation. It’s due to be released on 7″ vinyl but in the meantime you can get it digitally from here. Seven Tin Stars – Doppelgänger

Doppelgänger features two new tracks that have been added to the 2nd edition of the Return to the White Tide EP which is now available for pre-order from Emma’s House Records. If, like me, you have the original version you can pick these two tracks up for nowt from the band’s own page but given how glorious Combine is I suggest you chuck in a couple of nicker. Something For The Weekend? – Shozegazers in the Mix

This weeks pack of three features three Shoegazing artists who don’t mind the art of remix. All Sparks Burn Out – Seconds Like Days Seconds Like Days is the second single to be lifted from the forthcoming debut album Shapes In The Shadows by Australian band All Sparks Burn Out. Seconds Like Days is a short but blissful effort. However it’s the additional tracks that are worth picking up. Magenta Low (Waving At Earth Mix) ventures into Seefeel territory whilst Sunspots (Scorched Satellite Mix) gets put through a blender and comes out sounding like something on Warp circa 1990’s. Most excellent. Facebook Lost … Continue reading Something For The Weekend? – Shozegazers in the Mix

Bedroom Eyes – Trondheim Harbor

Back 10-12 years ago Sweden was a hotbed of guitar based indiepop drawing it’s inspiration from the 1980’s UK indie era. One of the bands who stood out for me was Bedroom Eyes especially their 2006 EP Embrace In Stereo and it’s standout track Motorcycle Daydream. Things move on and I lost track of the band presuming they joined the large number of short lived bands who rode that particular crest on a wave. The other day I was just delving into the net when I came across the brand new single from the one and the same. Taken from … Continue reading Bedroom Eyes – Trondheim Harbor

Second Still – Opening

Opening is taken from the forthcoming Equals EP by LA based Second Still. Given they take their name from a song by Modern Eon it should come as no surprise that they have a strong, distinctive and, in the case of Opening, an epic post-punk sound. It’s available on vinyl and digital formats via Weyrd Son Records. It’s also being released as a limited edition cassette by Sentimental Records in April. You can pre-order it here. Given both labels are based in Brussels it further strengthens that post-punk link…. Facebook Continue reading Second Still – Opening

Something For The Weekend? – Three from WIAIWYA

This week’s pack of three focuses on three forthcoming release on London’s Where It’s At Is Where You Are label. Birdie – Bowling Green First up is Bowling Green which is taken from the new single from cult band Birdie who consist of Debsey Wykes (Dolly Mixture) and Paul Kelly (East Village). It’s a gentle, soothing affair perfectly weighted for an indiepop chill-out album (out now on K-Tel – okay I made that up) The 7″ was part of the labels Singles Club and has sold out. You can still get in digitally from here. Facebook Spearmint – The Music … Continue reading Something For The Weekend? – Three from WIAIWYA
