Foundlings – Enemy

Londoners Foundlings gear up for next months debut self titled EP release with a track taken from said EP. Enemy is another faultless track that builds up slowly before jangling it’s way to it’s conclusion. It certainly bodes well for that EP. None of the bands previous tracks appear on the EP which can be pre-ordered from here. The EP will be launched at London’s Sebright Arms on 2nd March 2019. Tickets available from here. Monnone Alone – Do It Twice

Monnone Alone is Mark Monnone, once of The Lucksmiths, and friends. New single Do It Twice is the second one to be lifted from the forthcoming album Summer of the Mosquito which is due out in May this year. It’s a fuzzy jangling indiepop song that harks back to the glory days of Flying Nun and according to the blurb is an ode to second chances and graciously sabotaging life’s opportunities – just for kicks!. It’s available on 7″ via a number of labels. Check the band’s bandcamp page for your nearest label. Continue reading Monnone Alone – Do It Twice

Na Grebne Volny – Следи за огнем

Oh er. On this release Na Grebne Volny turn into a full-on surf pop band with two instrumental tracks that make the listener think of the beaches of Southern California rather than the colder climate of Pereslavl-Zalessky which is where the band are from. You could also imagine that Dick Dale is on guitar. That said I hope the band revert to their previous sound at some point because I miss the lovely voice of their singer! Gars de Gouttiere – Tchou Tchou

The new effort from that Paris based Gars de Gouttiere may suggest that the band has a split personality. Petite Balade is a lovely, short indiepop song with jangling guitars and whispered vocals. However flip side Tchou Tchou Tchoin Tchoin is a full on dance track with those whispered vocals making a return.  The two distinct types of musical styles here may have some scratching their heads but personally I think it’s great that they offer two contrasting songs that, if you think about it, may not be too dissimilar after all. Fog – Shine / DreamingDreamingDreaming

Dream-poppers Fog are a new band out of Seoul, South Korea. I enjoyed last year’s demo album The Harder We Push, The Faster We’ll All Get Outta Here and the band have now followed it up with the two tracks here. Shine sounds like a demo version of the classic Chapterhouse track Pearl whilst DreamingDreamingDreaming is a poppier effort with chiming guitars that outreach the sometimes impassive vocals. Not bad! Facebook Continue reading Fog – Shine / DreamingDreamingDreaming

Warsaw Pact – Midnight Cure (Alternate Mix)

In the 1970s there was a short-lived punk band called Warsaw Pakt who were around at the same time as another band called Warsaw. The latter, because they did not want to be confused with the former, changed their name to Joy Division and the rest they say is history. Why do I mention this? Well aside from being a bore it’s because Warsaw Pact, like Interpol et al. before them, obviously take their cues from band formerly known as Warsaw supplying a modern take on the sound. Whilst there is no Martin Hannett on the mixing desk I always … Continue reading Warsaw Pact – Midnight Cure (Alternate Mix)
