Compilation Week – Paranoia Musique Vol. 2

Paranoia Musique Vol. 2 is the second volume (guess what the first was called?) wrapping up the darker side of post-punk to be released this year by the label of the same name. The Brazilian Paranoia Musique has scoured the globe for ya and there are contributions from South America, Asia and Europe. There are a couple of dubious entries here (isn’t there always?) but these are levelled out by excellent contributions from Diktatur, Gangue Morcego and the wonderful Makaria whom I would not heard otherwise. And that’s the point of compilations is it not? So if gothic post-punk inspired … Continue reading Compilation Week – Paranoia Musique Vol. 2

You Can See – Coldwave, Darkwave, Post-Punk, Goth-Rock and Minimal Synth Vol 5

Another mix of post-punk for your listening pleasure. Aside from the obvious Joy Division clones there seems to be quite a bit of innovation in post-punk genres especially under Coldwave of late so much so I could probably start a new blog around it. Probably! Once again there is more than enough to keep you occupied from the return of Cold Cave and music from new post punk bands hailing from from Italy, France, Mexico and many more places around the globe. So get stuck in and enjoy! Continue reading You Can See – Coldwave, Darkwave, Post-Punk, Goth-Rock and Minimal Synth Vol 5

A Voice That Whispers In My Head – Coldwave, Darkwave, Post-Punk, Goth-Rock and Minimal Synth Vol 4

As promised yesterday here is the second mix for this weekend. This time the mix concentrates on coldwave, post-punk and minimal wave to cover a few genres! As I get older I find myself progressing back to listening to the music in my youth and this mix certainly reminds me of those times. There is some wonderful stuff here from Europe and the States – enjoy! Continue reading A Voice That Whispers In My Head – Coldwave, Darkwave, Post-Punk, Goth-Rock and Minimal Synth Vol 4

Distant Light – Coldwave, Darkwave, Post-Punk, Goth-Rock and Minimal Synth Vol 3

Another does of post-punk, coldwave, minimal synth and dark wave for your listening pleasure. Some excellent tracks here especially the releases from French label Unknown Pleasures which I will have to feature more of at some point! It will be a bit quiet around here over the next few weeks as holidays beckon so head to the Playmoss or Records I Like Playlists site for more tuneage until I return. Continue reading Distant Light – Coldwave, Darkwave, Post-Punk, Goth-Rock and Minimal Synth Vol 3

Something For The Weekend? Three from Shelflife.

This week’s pack of three focuses on three current & imminent releases from Shelflife Records. Love Dance – All The Time I haven’t heard anything from Love Dance in an age and then I heard this and I thought it was a completely different band. Long gone is the jangling indie pop which is now replaced by pulsating synth pop beats. Hell it even sounds like Bizarre Love Triangle towards the end. Excellent. Available digitally from here. Facebook Homepage The Luxembourg Signal – Laura Palmer More shimmering dreampop loveliness from The Luxembourg Signal who deliver the goods once more. Musically … Continue reading Something For The Weekend? Three from Shelflife.

Catching Up. Again!

It’s been a busy time at work and as you can tell by the lack of posts I have not had much chance to listen to much new stuff. Preparing for the Culture Bunker’s 5th Anniversary night hasn’t helped either but that’s one chore I am happy to have. Enough of me moaning. Here are some of the tracks I have been listening too. No words from me either! Rocketship/Pia Fraus – Outer Otherness/Cloudy Eyes Split 7″ single which you can get from here. And just as I write this post Rocketship, who offered parts of their track for remixing, … Continue reading Catching Up. Again!

New Today – Cuts & B-Side

Two slabs of contrasting post-punk tracks from New Today who themselves are a collaboration between Casuistry and Two One Six so understandably both bands influences are prevalent on these tracks. Cuts is a goth-tinged synthpop track that would find favour with fans of Alien Sex Fiend and Clan of Xymox whilst Let Me Loose, which is my pick of the two, edges closer to the likes of Joy Division, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry and Bauhaus. Available on a pay what you want basis from bandcamp. Continue reading New Today – Cuts & B-Side

Par Avion – Par Avion

I have been listening to a lot of compilations featuring minimal synth/coldwave tracks from the late 1970’s and early 1980’s over the past couple of months and this new EP from Ukrainian outfit Par Avion sounds like it could have jumped from any one of them. These tracks have an extreme retro feel about them none more so than the excellent Simulakra that sounds likes The Normal’s Warm Leatherette crossed with Kraftwerk’s Pocket Calculator. Another high-quality release that is amazingly available on a pay what you want basis from Bandcamp. Continue reading Par Avion – Par Avion

State of the Nation – Rotterdam

It’s hard not to compare State Of The Nation to New Order and I am not going even to attempt to do so here. Suffice to say that this is a thoroughly enjoyable retro pop single that sounds like Blue Monday, Confusion and most of Brotherhood. Thankfully there are no pointless remixes this time around and you can get it digitally from Bandcamp. Another single entitled Amsterdam follows next month. I wonder what that will sound like? Facebook Continue reading State of the Nation – Rotterdam
