Given their irregular discography San Francisco’s Minipop seem to have been going for about nine years now but this is the first I have heard of them. Their new EP Chances is packed to the rafters with shimmering guitars, etherial female vocals and dreamy, melodic rhythms. I Feel Like I’m On Drugs is taken from The Strange Creatures forthcoming second EP titled Stargazer which is due out in May. It’s full of interesting ideas floating between indiepop, dreampop and shoegaze but gets bogged down in parts due to the songs length. Not yet seven days into 2014 and the label behind this forthcoming release reckons you will not hear a better 7″ single this year. The Electric Mainline are all psych noise and shoegaze mixed together whilst Soundwire go one step further and add krautrock into the mix. It’s a great combination but best 7″ of the year? Whilst I am not sure about that it certainly sets a benchmark for the next 12 months.
