Pinkshinyultrablast – Kiddy Pool Dreams

Spanking new single from Russian experimental shoegazers Pinkshinyultrablast. It’s backed with a version on the flip and is out on Club AC30 on October 2nd. Sadly the limited edition vinyl has sold out but you will be able to get it in digital formats via the usual places. The band start their UK tour tomorrow (Friday 25th Sept)  and I can vouch that they are well worth catching. Facebook Continue reading Pinkshinyultrablast – Kiddy Pool Dreams

Lowtide – Julia/Spring

The latest single from Melbourne dreampoppers Lowtide is a cover of Julia by French post punk band Asylum Party. It’s a cracking cover with the shimmering guitars and joyous joint vocals really doing the original justice. However it’s the flip side Spring that deserves the plaudits here as it develops into a track of anthem like proportions that will have your feet tapping and your head nodding in unison such is it’s pull. Excellent! Out now in 7″ vinyl and digital formats. And here is the original from 1988. Facebook Soundcloud Continue reading Lowtide – Julia/Spring

The Morelings – Lonesome Tonight

A shimmering dreampop cover of New Order’s Lonesome Tonight by The Morelings who have taken the original and made it their own rather than make a carbon copy. It’s taken from Dreams Never End, A Tribute To New Order which is currently available via the Brazilian label The Blog That Celebrates Itself Records which has a history of releasing tribute albums. And here is the original which was found on the flip side of Thieves Like Us back in 1984. Facebook Continue reading The Morelings – Lonesome Tonight

Air Formation – The Wasted Days

Four years after calling it a day eminent shoegazers Air Formation return with a new single. Were We Ever Here features four songs and the label have posted final track The Wasted Days as a taster. Holiday Tuneage!

It’s going to be a bit silent around here for the next couple of weeks whilst I am away but that doesn’t mean that there will be nothing left to listen too judging by this round up post which features some music I have meaning to mention separately but time etc. First up is The Death of Pop with their new single Bubble Bath that features four excellent indie pop tracks. Not much progression from their previous work but if it ain’t broke………………. The excellent The Choo Choo Trains, who describe themselves as playing “girl-guide Shoegaze”, have a new cassette … Continue reading Holiday Tuneage!

Forevr – Demonstration

An excellent debut EP from Brisbane duo Forever which gives a big nod to the influences of the likes of My Bloody Valentine and the Telescopes.  Indeed it could be a Creation Records time capsule from 1988. The EP has a distorted yet fragile sound which soon shatters like glass or falling icicles. The vocals are shimmering and beautiful as they fade in and out. Closing track Forgive is the pick of the bunch but in truth each one is an instant shoegaze classic. I can listen to this Forevr! It’s available to buy in CD or cassette formats. Amazingly … Continue reading Forevr – Demonstration

Star Horse – Slower Now/Wherever You

Nice melodic shoegaze from Sweden that draws comparisons from The Cocteau Twins to Slowdive. There is a lot of this about at present but rather than being a pale imitation Star Horse take these influences and turn them into something lovely especially on Slower Now with singer/guitarist Maja’s vocals standing out. Available on 7″ via Häxrummet Records and digital download. Get it from here. Facebook Continue reading Star Horse – Slower Now/Wherever You

Sans Néant – Astral / Leaves / Behind

Excellent stuff from Finland. Experimental meets shoegaze, indiepop and noisepop amongst others . There is plenty of stuff on the bandcamp page to download for nowt but this latest release is the best work so far especially on opening track Astrals (Collide) which sounds like a mashup between The Jesus and Mary Chain and My Bloody Valentine. Final track Uphill Shadows is also worth a listen venturing into Aphex Twin territory circa the Richard D. James album period. Nice! Continue reading Sans Néant – Astral / Leaves / Behind

Tape Runs Out – Friends / Flowers

Experimental meets shoegaze meets pop. Or something like that. Friends finishes far too quickly for my liking whilst Flowers takes a few listens as it slowly grows on you. An interesting first release from this Cambridge based band. It’s out as a digital single via Ear To Ear Records. Get it from here. An album (with a new line up) follows later this year.
