The latest single from Melbourne dreampoppers Lowtide is a cover of Julia by French post punk band Asylum Party. It’s a cracking cover with the shimmering guitars and joyous joint vocals really doing the original justice. However it’s the flip side Spring that deserves the plaudits here as it develops into a track of anthem like proportions that will have your feet tapping and your head nodding in unison such is it’s pull. It’s taken from Dreams Never End, A Tribute To New Order which is currently available via the Brazilian label The Blog That Celebrates Itself Records which has a history of releasing tribute albums. An excellent debut EP from Brisbane duo Forever which gives a big nod to the influences of the likes of My Bloody Valentine and the Telescopes. Indeed it could be a Creation Records time capsule from 1988. The EP has a distorted yet fragile sound which soon shatters like glass or falling icicles. The vocals are shimmering and beautiful as they fade in and out. Closing track Forgive is the pick of the bunch but in truth each one is an instant shoegaze classic. I can listen to this Forevr! Nice melodic shoegaze from Sweden that draws comparisons from The Cocteau Twins to Slowdive. There is a lot of this about at present but rather than being a pale imitation Star Horse take these influences and turn them into something lovely especially on Slower Now with singer/guitarist Maja’s vocals standing out. Excellent stuff from Finland. Experimental meets shoegaze, indiepop and noisepop amongst others . There is plenty of stuff on the bandcamp page to download for nowt but this latest release is the best work so far especially on opening track Astrals (Collide) which sounds like a mashup between The Jesus and Mary Chain and My Bloody Valentine. Love Bludger b/w Fall is the debut digital single from Perth (Australia) based Baby Honey. Both sides of the single are noisy shoegazing influenced tracks with shared male/female vocals.
