Browned Butter – Fall

Fall is a simple but damn right effective shoegazing track from Kyoto’s Browned Butter. It’s certainly one of the best shoegazing tracks I have heard this year and by the time it has finished playing I am sure you will be saying the same thing too thanks to it’s melodic guitars and the lovely vocals of singer/guitarist Naoko Yutani. Amazingly this is their first demo and they may have set the bar just a little too high. Time will tell! Get it from here. Homepage Continue reading Browned Butter – Fall

Lazy Legs – Tremor EP

Bed Head is the sound of The Cocteau Twins if they appeared in 1989 and had a debut EP on Creation. Throughout the EP shimmering guitars clash with ethereal vocals with most of the tracks building up, reaching a crescendo. The exception is closer Acid Braids which sounds like a Seefeel demo! Thoroughly enjoyable. File alongside the aforementioned and the likes of Slowdive. Get it from here. Facebook Continue reading Lazy Legs – Tremor EP

Soft Science – Sooner/Paris

Soft Science follow up their recent Undone single with another fine effort in the shape of Sooner. It’s very Lush (pun intended) as it sounds pretty similar to that band’s output circa 1990-1991. If you haven’t heard of Lush before then in a nutshell Sooner is dreamy, swirling shoegaze with lovely ethereal vocals. It’s backed with the bands remastered cover of Northern Picture Library’s Paris track which they originally recorded for the excellent TBTCI Sarah Records covers project Popkiss last year. They slow it down and cover it in more 4AD inspired sounds complete with shimmering guitars and heavenly vocals. … Continue reading Soft Science – Sooner/Paris

The Age of Colored Lizards – Tomorrow

Another week, another single by The Age of Colored Lizards. Tomorrow is the third single to be lifted from the forthcoming debut album of the same name and carries on in pretty much the same vein as the previous single If You Want Me Back. If Ride’s first couple of EP’s on Creation had more of a psychedelic influence they may have well sounded like this. The Age of Colored Lizards also remind me of long forgotten Swedish band Easy in a big way too and that isn’t a bad thing to these ears. Hopefully the album rather than another … Continue reading The Age of Colored Lizards – Tomorrow

Terra Pines – Tired-al Wave

Tired-al Wave is the second single to be taken from the forthcoming debut self titled album by Brisbane’s dreampop/shoegaze band Terra Pines. Rather than issue a second full on, all guitars blazing single (Kidult was the first) the band have released this slow burning atmospheric effort instead. The joint vocals work a treat alongside the dreamy and fuzzy guitars and you can see why they have selected it to close the album. Bliss… The album is out later this month on various formats. Pre-order from here. Facebook Continue reading Terra Pines – Tired-al Wave

Lost and Found – A Records I Like Playlist (April 2018 #1)

Unfortunately the past ten days have seen me laid low by a viral infection hence the lack of posts. I have updated the playlist I had ready to go two weeks ago so it’s a bit of a bumper crop. Thankfully these tracks are more pleasant in their infectiousness than what I have been suffering with. Enjoy! Click on the image to start the playlist. More playlists can be found here and the Playmoss page is here. Continue reading Lost and Found – A Records I Like Playlist (April 2018 #1)

The Age of Colored Lizards – If You Want Me Back / Still Around

The latest single from Norwegian alt-rockers The Age of Coloured Lizards is far and away their best yet. Two tracks that err on the nosier side of shoegazing that encompass everything you want in fuzzy pop songs. The single itself is a taster for the forthcoming album Tomorrow that is due out later this year. In the meantime pick up the single digitally from here. Facebook Continue reading The Age of Colored Lizards – If You Want Me Back / Still Around

Something For The Weekend? Damnably Presents – Attyuuma (Blink Of An Eye) 2018 Tour

London based promoter and label Damnably are promoting an excellent gig featuring their artists at London’s Scala on Thursday 19th April. I am there with bells on. This weeks pack of three features a track from each band playing. Otoboke Beaver – anata watashi daita ato yome no meshi Japan’s Otoboke Beaver are headlining and anata watashi daita ato yome no meshi is their latest single (Feb 18).
