Kosmonaut – Debbie Harry’s Smile (California On Fire Mix)

Sadly blog faves Kosmonaut split up at the end of last year. Stephen from the band dropped me a line writing that “there is still a couple of loose ends to tie up though and this remix by The Luxembourg Signal is one of them. Before we split up our intentions were to release a cd single of Debbie Harry’s Smile and include a load of remixes by our friends, unfortunately that’s not going to happen and only a couple of remixes got finished.” So here is that Luxembourg Signal remix in it’s glory. Various – Strawberry Punks

Strawberry Punks is a compilation compiling five Indonesian bands who contribute a track each. This EP demonstrates how strong the Indonesian indiepop scene is. Go back a few years and whilst the music was good in most cases it was note for note copy of a any number of Sarah Records bands you could care to name. On this compilation however bands are now coming out of their comfort zone and expanding far from their influences none more so than The Whistling Possum and their track Them Are Pigs which fuses some of the danceable elements of post punk together … Continue reading Various – Strawberry Punks

Herlights – Changes

More music from Russia for you today. Changes is the new single from Herlights. It features three dream-pop tracks complete with the band’s trademark sullen vocals which give a strong atmospheric feel to the songs none more so than on Wasted Youth. I was a bit disappointed by some of the new songs on the previous effort Happiness is now but Changes is an excellent return to form. Get it from here. Continue reading Herlights – Changes

Verbludes – Nightmares

More twee influenced indiepop from the Russian band Verbludes. Кошмары sounds quite jolly but once you translate the title (Nightmares) and the lyrics into English is not all smiles and handclaps as you may have been lead to believe! Regardless of all of that it’s a catchy and bouncy track none the less! It’s pretty much the same formula on Пустые слова (Blank Words) which also contains some excellent boy/girl vocals. The result? Two excellent indiepop tracks that you can get for nowt from here. VK.Com Continue reading Verbludes – Nightmares
