Failed Flowers – Demos 2014

I am sure they could of come up with a name far better than Demos 2014 because these tracks from Ann Arbor’s Failed Flowers are perfect as they are. I can hear indiepop influences from both sides of the pond (early Dressy Bessy?) as well as hints of the odd girl fronted group thrown in. I just hope they don’t polish these songs too much at a later date as they may lose some of their DIY charm. Available on tape via Life Like but as it’s not on their site get it from the band’s bandcamp page. Continue reading Failed Flowers – Demos 2014

Peru – Sent To Saltcoats / Time On The Clock

The opening fifteen seconds of Sent To Saltcoats suggest we could have a Northern Soul floor stomper on our hands before it merges with a jangling indiepop sound. Flip side Time On The Clock is full of rhyming guitars that bounce along in conjunction with frontman Brian’s strong and distinctive vocals. An excellent single all round. The single is out now on Archdeacon Of Pop Records in 7″ and digital formats. Facebook Continue reading Peru – Sent To Saltcoats / Time On The Clock

Clearing The Decks

I have bookmarked a lot of music to mention but time prevents me from writing about them all individually so this post is a round up of them all serving as my must buy list too! Note: if you want to listen to a companion playlist to this post head over here. The Hundredth Anniversary released their Wreckers EP back in March. Not sure why I didn’t mention it then as it’s great. Another great release on Oddbox Records. Spanish indie poppers Band A Part have a compilation of their early material and demos out on Elefant Records. It’s a … Continue reading Clearing The Decks

The Wolfhounds – Anthem

The second post of 2014, like the first, features a release on Oddbox Records. This time it’s the third 7″ single in a year for the label from C86 survivors The Wolfhounds. It’s a double A side featuring Anthem and Middle Aged Freak. Only the former is available for streaming at present and whilst not as catchy as the previous two singles the jagged guitars, Dave Callahan’s deadpan vocals and the crescendo of noise means it soon grows on you pretty sharpish. The band have also been confirmed as playing at this years Northern Star Weekender which takes place at … Continue reading The Wolfhounds – Anthem

Flowers – More Demos

Whilst you wait for their next release you catch catch up on Flowers progress by listening to a new batch of demos they have uploaded to their bandcamp page. Tracks like Never See This Place Again and Shy sound great in demo form which just makes you wionder how much better they can be if they ever record them “properly”.
