The Morelings – Lonesome Tonight

Tom

A shimmering dreampop cover of New Order’s Lonesome Tonight by The Morelings who have taken the original and made it their own rather than make a carbon copy. It’s taken from Dreams Never End, A Tribute To New Order which is currently available via the Brazilian label The Blog That Celebrates Itself Records which has a history of releasing tribute albums. And here is the original which was found on the flip side of Thieves Like Us back in 1984. Facebook Continue reading The Morelings – Lonesome Tonight

Exiles – I’ve Got Secrets Too

Tom

I’ve Got Secrets Too is the latest release from Brooklyn’s Exiles. Opening track Dawn Patrol is an excellent example of dreampop with shimmering guitars and vocals that pack a punch. It is certainly up there with the best that dream pop has to offer in 2015. However I am not sure about the rest of the EP as the other three tracks sound somewhat polished, samey and safe to me. Each song is somewhat constrained with the band unwilling to venture into the territory afforded to them by the opening track. Yes it is all pleasant enough and the vocals … Continue reading Exiles – I’ve Got Secrets Too

Star Horse – Slower Now (Remixes)

Tom

I mentioned Star Horse and their excellent Slower Now single last month. It’s now had the remix treatment courtesy of Thunberg and LTZA. Both mixes concentrate on the vocals which stood out on the original and highlight them to great effect. The former is upbeat, almost dancey in places but it’s the latter remix I prefer which drifts in and out of ambient/film score territory resulting in a dreamy and atmospheric feel.  Neither are better than the original though so give that a listen first. Holiday Tuneage!

Tom

It’s going to be a bit silent around here for the next couple of weeks whilst I am away but that doesn’t mean that there will be nothing left to listen too judging by this round up post which features some music I have meaning to mention separately but time etc. First up is The Death of Pop with their new single Bubble Bath that features four excellent indie pop tracks. Not much progression from their previous work but if it ain’t broke………………. The excellent The Choo Choo Trains, who describe themselves as playing “girl-guide Shoegaze”, have a new cassette … Continue reading Holiday Tuneage!

Forevr – Demonstration

Tom

An excellent debut EP from Brisbane duo Forever which gives a big nod to the influences of the likes of My Bloody Valentine and the Telescopes.  Indeed it could be a Creation Records time capsule from 1988. The EP has a distorted yet fragile sound which soon shatters like glass or falling icicles. The vocals are shimmering and beautiful as they fade in and out. Closing track Forgive is the pick of the bunch but in truth each one is an instant shoegaze classic. I can listen to this Forevr! It’s available to buy in CD or cassette formats. Amazingly … Continue reading Forevr – Demonstration

A Copy For Collapse – Grey Sunday

Tom

Grey Sunday is the second single taken the second album, Waiting For, by Italian electronic duo A Copy For Collapse. It’s a great track that weaves lush patterns throughout mixing laid back electronica with a dose of dreampop. The album is pretty good too. If shoegazing was a techno sub genre then it may have sounded like Waiting For! Grey Sunday, bundled with remixes, can be purchased digitally from here. Waiting For can be purchased on 12″ vinyl from here. It can also be purchased digitally here. Facebook Soundcloud Continue reading A Copy For Collapse – Grey Sunday
