Precious Recordings of London are known for their releases of classic BBC sessions. They then started releasing what they term us “Unmissable new stuff” which now includes a trio of 7″ singles they have tagged the International Pop Underground. These three singles are by Josie, Robert Sekula and Tossing Seed.
Danish band Josie released a fabulous set of demos last year and they have built on those with Still Time. It’s a sparkling retro sounding, but fresh as a daisy, indie pop song. Talulah Gosh would be a subtle hint.
London based Robert Sekula should need no introduction given he was the frontman of 14 Iced Bears.
I am amazed to read that the Asyd Mouse EP is his solo first release but that must mean first physical release because who can forget the wonderful Pamela from a few years ago? Anyway pedantry aside, Sweetest Star is a lovely song especially as the female backing vocals kick in on the songs journey home.
Indonesian fuzzy/noise poppers Tossing Seed released Stars In Your Eyes digitally back in January. In my review, no need to repeat it all here, I said it would be nice to hear them via a 7″ single (flexi disc?) and what do ya know. For fans of the Shop Assistants, Fizzbombs, Rosehips etc everywhere.
I have duly pre-ordered all three – you can do the same via the label on 7″ or digital formats. Viva the International Pop Underground!
