Four great post-punk tunes that I have been digitally spinning much of late for your perusal.
Glass Chapel – Snow
Snow is the second single this year from the Jacksonville based coldwave/post-punk band. They remind me of the likes of Forever Grey and Cold Cave. Snow hints at a dystopian landscape whilst the music is somewhat metallic alongside an unhappy vocal style with words that encompass melancholy. This stuff really cheers me up you know!
None Shall Remain – Nasty Mind
New York’s None Shall Remain produce songs that feature all the essentials of the post-punk genre so much so that you could describe their sound as a formulaic response to the genre. Honestly that’s not meant to be rude but is actually my way of complimenting them as their sound captures all what I love about this type of music. Nasty Mind is a great retro sounding track to boot and one for the darker dance-floors.
Demmers – Stay In The Dimness
This one sounds a bit like The Chameleons mixed with The Cure. The vocals are very Bob Smith whilst the guitars are translucent, providing an atmospheric feel. It builds nicely on the recent split with True Faith.
Post Analog Disorder – Beneath The Sun
Electronic Body Music emerged in the early 1980s pioneered by bands such as the Belgian band Front 242. They actually called time on their 40 year career in January after a farewell tour but in the Hungarian outfit Post Analog Disorder we have a ready made replacement. The repetitive beats and the deliberately distorted vocals are a joy to these ears – it’s a timeless sound. And a great one too.
