A much more gentler affair today spent listening to (and buying!) experimental electronica and ambient.
Deary have remixed last years The Moth single delivering two different interpretations with the Pump Mix and the Chrysalis Mix. The former is full of repetitive patterns with the vocals sounding childlike in a haunting way. One for the Seefeel and Aphex Twin fans out there. The latter layers trip hop over a hypnotic beat complete with hints of ambient electronica. It results in a sound that would be perfect for a disturbing and haunting sci-fi soundtrack.
I lose track of all the names husband and wife duo Hollie & Kenneth Kennif record under. Harbors is Hollie and Goldmund, which is one of Kenneth’s many guises. Regardless of the name you know that any of their tracks will not disappoint and the two ambient tracks here firmly fall into that category.
A Portrait Of Time would be ideal for a Twin Peaks style TV series whilst Where the Light Falls could be a reincarnated Erik Satie. Two short but beautiful pieces.
Short is definitely not a word you would use to describe the new track from Callière. All The Places She Wasn’t runs at just under 35 minutes and is an experimental ambient track with hints of drone, shoegaze and white noise thrown in. It’s the sort of music I listen to at night when I need something to help me doze off so if sleep through the alarm tomorrow I know who to blame.
