Three releases that grab your attention thanks to the wonderful female vocals.
Vein Blue – Dandelion EP
Los Angeles based Vein Blue have called in a day after a decade of making music but they have signed off in style with the Dandelion EP which features some of the best dreampop tracks you are likely here over the coming months and possibly year.
The songs are luscious and beautiful with Brand New and By My Side being my highlights but there is not a duff track amongst the four here if truth be told. It’s a shame I only discovered them last year but they have left behind a wealth of recordings to explore.
Voiden – Fyra Sånger Med Trummaskin
As one band departs a new one emerges with Sweetish act Voiden. This EP, which translates as Four Songs With Drum Machine, is the bands debut and it’s impressive to say the least. The band describe their music as “sounds like Bristol 1989 and lyrics like Östersund 2006”.
Obviously with a description like that you would not be surprised to hear that the band veer towards C86 and the moodier side of indiepop with songs like the title track tickling the fancy. The vocals are catchy being strong with it, whilst the translated words hint at tales of melancholia. I cannot wait to hear more.
Soft Siren – Dethereal
I have not really got into Soft Siren’s previous dreampop vibe. It ticks some of, but not all, the boxes for me and my ears found it just tried to hard to please.
However that opinion has changed, well for now, with the latest single Dethereal which sticks to a more traditional, 4AD inspired shoegaze sound rather than the fusions found on their earlier works. The vocals are near perfect!
