Indonesian label Forfun.Cookies have curated the newly released Trusted Riders It’s a compilation based on the concept of tunes to accompany a bicycle ride. The label describes it as an ” international underground pop music compilation” and alongside the cream of the current Indonesian indiepop crop we get contributions from Australia, The Philippines and the UK.
In fact it’s contributions from The Cat’s Miaow (Aus) and Mighty Mighty (UK) that get kick (pedal?) things off. The former provide the very dreamy Have You Done This Before, originally found on last years Let’s Pretend That We Are Someone Else EP. Mighty Mighty Have been doing their thing for almost forty years now and it’s a blast from the past in the shape of When You Trusted Me that gets the flow going.
Indonesian band Anti combine with Filipino act Cream Flower on the raw, jangling You Shouldn’t Take It As a Mess whilst the new to me Alice Creek deliver the hazy Dancing In The Sun which can be found on their brand new Cerulean Skies long player. Cinema Lumiere contribute Write Your Name In The Sky which is one of the highlights from last years Wishing It Was Sunday album. Their sound is so joyous and vibrant it will want to make you cycle amongst the clouds.
I know absolutely nothing about Noise Cat but their brand of DIY indiepop found on Discarding is simply divine. We need more from Noise cat pretty please. The Sweetest Touch provide the brilliant Unnatural. I previously wrote that “The guitars jangle at all the right moments with the dance floor of the local indiepop club being the likely final destination” but this new version featuring Mary Yeung on vocals bats it right out of the park.
Cream Flower provide It Comes and Goes which is taken from last years To Remember is To Live album. Their mix of electronica, shoegaze and dreampop suggests that album is worth checking out. Cheeseu Club get nice and fuzzy on Me N Two Angels whilst Mighty Mighty head back to 2016’s Stupid Little Things. Whether you listen to their music from 1986 or 2016 their sound is timeless and you can hear why some call them “legends”.
The Interpretation Cultures provide a new song in the shape of Distractions which builds finely on their recent debut single. It’s another new track (I think) from Mighty Mighty fans Maisonette. The band name and track title Is There Anyone Who Can Help should give that away if the music found within doesn’t. Finally Birmingham’s finest are back with their third contribution of the day with an alternate version (live, demo?) of the classic Everybody Knows The Monkey.
You can trust Forfun.Cookies on this excellent mix of tracks. Pedal over to Bandcamp and pick this one up pronto.
