Maisonette – Money

I was glancing through an old copy of The Guardian Playlists book the other day when I noticed there was a playlist about poverty. Given the age of the book, it was published in 2008, I was wondering what songs I would add to it if I was so inclined. Then, right on cue, Maisonette release their new EP Money and the title of their first single from a couple of months ago makes complete sense.

There is no let up on the Mighty Mighty influences (the clues in the band name) found on Last Cig across the three new tracks here. They are all jangling guitar tracks taking influences from pop, disco and Orange Juice’s You Can’t Hide Your Love Forever. The repetitiveness found in each song adds to the charm and either one of Find A Job or Poor would certainly find a place on that aforementioned playlist.
