I mentioned Indonesian indiepoppers Drizzly. yesterday. However, I first mentioned them and their Bitter To See You single just over a year ago now. It was (and still is!) a fine twee indiepop tune.
The song has now managed to find its way into the hands of Surabaya based sound system & PA, Mote Sound System. Taking in their Jamaican roots music influences, they have managed to turn the track into a full on dub experience.
As the MC toasts over the fully laden beats, the song’s original vocals are hauntingly sampled, making your hair stand up on end as they stand out in the background. It should not work, but it does. Twee Reggae Party anyone?
It’s backed with an instrumental version, but that may have worked even better by having the sampled original vocals included sans the toasting. Get this one from here.
Here’s the original.
